Default Re: Wisdom Teeth Extraction!

I had all four of my wisdom teeth take out a few years back. The pain medication they gave me was percocet/oxycotin.It didn't work at all for me. I guess i need stronger drugs. But after the first day or too the pain wasn't really all that bad. I had a hard time coming off the gas and didn't really remember the first day except throwing up blood i swallow. Tmi yuck i know. I ate whatever i wanted really after the first day or two. Just eat soups that are cooled good. like tomato, potatoe, etc.

I only had one taken out at a time with 2 different doctors. The first was horrible, but the second doctor I was eating normal the next morning. Very minimal pain - took a few advil and no biggie.

I had my two bottom ones taken out several years ago. They did knock me out for the procedure. I was on codeine which did pretty good for the pain. But then I realized that I was very itchy - I had scratched my abdomen all up. Didn't connect it with the codeine for a few days. I finally realized I was allergic to the codeine so do watch out for itchiness or other symptoms of allergy to the pain meds. I really wasn't in much pain after a couple of days but my jaw was very sore to open it much at all for about a week so I ate the soft foods for the whole first week.

I had mine removed about 6 months ago. I had to have them cut out and stitched and I was in a lot of pain for 3 days. The first day was the worst. I was also awake for the entire procedure. I also had a weak and sore jaw for a week or so and drooled A LOT. I think I could of rung my pillow out in the morning, ICK!

Its a good thing your having it done on a Monday so if you have any proglems you can go back in the next day. I had mine done a Friday & ended up with 2 dry sockets. Called my regular dentist on a Saturday at his home in tears asking if anything could be done. He had me come in & put something in them & then it was a lot better. The pain of dry sockets was worse than giving birth & that was no picnic either IYKWIM. If that wouldn't have happened I don't think it would have really been bad at all. Good luck!

Default Re: Wisdom Teeth Extraction!

Alrighty! The teeth have been out for 7ish hours. Took a Motrin and Percocet shortly after I got home and I have yet to feel any pain. I didn't nap when I got home either, I was NOT tired. Getting a little tired now though, but I always get a bit sleepy later in the evenings. I think I've finally stopped drooling/oozing blood, at least enough so that I dont feel gross swallowing it.

They had me breathing some oxygen/nitro combo and that made me feel a bit tingly. Then the doc came in and stuck the IV in my arm, they said they'd strap me to the chair soon so I don't slide out and then I must've knocked out. Woke up with the gauze in my mouth and I was VERY talkative. No nausea and no pain, I'm sure I'll be really sore tomorrow though =/

Thank you all for your tips/stories =)

The advice about not sucking anything...(milkshakes, any other thick drinks). Avoid anything super chewy either (gum, fruit snacks, candy). Make sure you follow that. As the area heals blood clots and new tissue form. That sucking motion can literally pull that tissue straight out of where it needs to be. Bleeding, possible infection, and just a longer healing time in general. Good luck!
