That's very true. Depression caused by a situation that can be overcome can be "cured" (for example, my dh is depressed because he feels like a failure because he can't work or take care of his family because he needs surgery on his knee and shoulder.) He is on medication for his depression. Once he has the surgery, and can get back to work, his depression should resolve, because the situation is gone.
However, I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, chronic. It will never go away. Medications can make it seem better, for a short while, but it does not "cure" it (like taking an antibiotic will cure an infection)
if you stop taking the medication, you stop feeling better.
For these questions...
When were you clinically cured of depression? There should be a "I'm not cured" option, instead of assuming that everyone taking the survey will have been cured.
After how long, if at all, did you notice a significant improvement in your depression, presumably as a result of the SSRI? It says "if at all" but there is no option for there to be a negative response. Again, there should be a "No significant improvment while taking this medication" As in my case. The SSRI's that I was tried on did not do anything for me. There was absolutely no improvement in my situation at all.
I finished the study, and had my dh answer the questions also.
HTH
At least someone is out there doing the research. I am grateful to your friend for the continued work to try to make depression medicaitions work, and create new ones.
Although I personally have not found a medication that has improved my depression, I'm hopeful that some time in the future one will be available that will work for me.
