Shingles...

Hi!!

I don't have to say anymore..if you have had them....!!

I'm on my third week of agony...the worst pain .....I have ever known... !!...and I was in a car accident once...!!

Because of the disease I have...I'm limited to the medications and dosages ..others usually receive..:frown:

So I'm riding the storm out....:frown:

I'm in the flaking stage ..when the scabs come off......ouch...

The pain has radiated from my spine ...into.. and down ,to the tips of my fingers...fairly non ending..

Right now my thumb and pointing finger are numb and ..tingle..burn..and hurt ....
just touching them sets off a spasm of pain...

Anyone have any comments to add ..

I never knew what Shingles, or true pain , were until
now....!!!..........

Oh my gosh. You poor thing. I have never had it, but a close friend of mine did. I hear the pain is horrible. I hope you get better soon.

Poor thing! My mother and grandfather have both had it - yikes! It sounded terribly painful.

I'm so sorry; my dad currently has shingles as well. I think his pain is more manageable now that he's had it for close to a month. He was hesitant to use the strong painkillers at first, but you could tell he was in severe pain.

I feel your pain - or rather I feel your pain and the pain my 17 year old had over the summer.

17 - can you beleive it - the Doctor was kind of surprised.

He had them under his armpits! Lovely for him as his full time summer job is landscaping - heat, sweat, pain!! and he couldn't use deoderant for 3 weeks. EEEK - smelly boy in pain. He couldn't take the pain meds during the day as he had to drive around, but you can bet he dropped one as soon as he got home, slept with his arms up in the air, sloughed off the "stuff" with face clothes 3 times a day - I ended up having to buy new ones of course.

I'm so sorry to learn that you have these. I've gotten twice in the last 2 years. The first time I could've sworn I had 2 broken ribs! I was misdiagnosed the 1st time, and had to go back a 2nd time (saw a different doc at the same place). If I remember correctly, they gave me Tylenol #3 for the pain.
Then this last time I had it on my shoulder, and still continue to have pain from that.

biggins may 'be on to something' w/ the L-lysine. As little as I know about it; I believe it is an amino acid. I can tell you from first hand experience, that it works great on mouth ulcers and cold sores. DH heard about it from a friend, and has used it since, and he recommended it to me. I have never tried it for shingles though, so I'll try to remember that for next time.
Even if you get the stinkin' shot, it doesn't guarantee you won't get it.

I know what you mean, about not being able to take certain things. I have Fibromyalgia and that Sambucol everyone was getting at CVS last year-it WIPES out my meds! which sends me into agony.

I had it on my face and it radiated into my right eye. I lost sight. Believe me, I feel your pain!

When I get them, I will get them again fairly quickly after the first episode clears up.
If you get them again, apply zostrix cream to the place asap. Something in it starts to dry them up.
It effects the pain receptors too.

My rhuemetologist says lysine too.

I researched and found lemon balm/melissa reduces outbreaks of my viruses. Fever blisters, shingles, and virus going around. I don't get sick as often as I use to since I began taking it.
It also calms my brain down too. I don't think about the same thing over and over.
I started taking lemon balm yrs ago and the dose was 3 490mg capsule 3 times a day. Now the same mg bottle says to take 1 490 mg 3 times a day.
I still take mine the old way.
I have found that I have to take mine with my meal or I get heart burn. They dissolve in my throat. They look like ground grass in a huge capsule. They taste like it too.
I have to eat with them. I have to take them in the beginning of my meal.

You can't take melissa if you are on antidepressents. It will wash those out.
