Default Anyone know of an ointment/cream that actually helps speed healing?

    OK...long story short...

I scratched the bridge of my nose with a ragged fingernail, while I was sleeping a couple of weeks ago. It hurt enough to wake me, and bled enough to make me get up and put a Bandaid on it. I have very dry skin, and I'm 50, so it's not young skin either! It's taking forever to heal!!

I treat it every night with Aquaphor ointment, and cover it with a bandaid before I go to bed. But, it's taking forever!! Of course, any time I'm in the sun, I put sunscreen on my face, but it still seems to get irritated by this.

So, does anyone know of anything else I can put on it to get it to heal faster? Please don't suggest going to a doctor. We had to cancel our health insurance last month, because we can't afford it anymore. Just LMK if you know of something I can buy without a prescription.

    Thanks!!

Wow, sorry that happened to you! Neosporin works really well for me to help speed the healing, with the added benefit of preventing infection.

Also, the longer it takes to heal, the worse the scarring will be. ScarZone is expensive ($10 a tube) but I used it for my c-section scar and it all but dissapeared after a year.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try Neosporin and see if it helps at all. I decided to make an effort to put peroxide on it several times a day...hoping that will help.

I checked out all of the scar treatments, but they all say that I have to wait until it's not an open cut before I can use them. Hopefully, that will be soon (and someone will have them on sale!!)

Yesterday, ds was leaving the bathroom, when a noise outside the bathroom window, startled him. As he turned back around, quickly, he walked into the wall! There was a 2 inch cut on his forehead. Not sure what he could've hit it on that would cause it to split in a straight line like that, unless it was just from the force of the whole thing. At first, I thought it was going to need stitches. My Neosporin is lost in storage somewhere, new tubes too. I managed to find some Q-Tips Treat & Go dh had picked up last year, for a bad cut on his hand.
This morning, DS took his band-aid off, and the pad on it was covered w/ all kinds of gunk, that the antibiotic drew out. (can't quite figure that out. There was black on this band-aid, and the walls are white, where he hit. He hadn't been outside all day)
I thought for sure that he would have a lot of bruising, and a 'goose-egg', but nothing. I believe this cut will heal up in just a few days. I thought originally, he'd have to wear something on his head for about a month. So that's my first recommendation.

The 2nd I would say is Super Glue. Seriously. It's great for closing up all kinds of cuts.

OMG!! Your poor son!! Glad he didn't need stitches!!

Your story reminded me of two things though. About 2 weeks ago, my son (29) was at work. He's a banquet, bar and restaurant manager at a hotel. As he was setting up some chairs, a light fixture fell on his head!! Luckily, it just hit him in the forehead, knocking him down (but not "out"), and he ended up with two big gashes on his forehead He probably should have had stitches, but he didn't. Amazingly, he's almost totally healed already! But, his skin is 20 years younger than mine! LOL!!

Also, last week, my grandson had a wound of some sort on his foot (they never know what happened!). My son was changing the bandaid, and said he had to dig out something black from the edge of the sore. He had no idea what it was, either!!

yeah, me too. DH's car isn't in running condition, so he's been taking my car for the last 2 months. I would've had to get a neighbor to run us to the ER or call an ambulance.

Glad your son is ok too.
