HELP! Can't find what the school supply list states is a LARGE pencil box!?!

Well.... school supply list for my first graders states a large school (pencil) box. Okay, what's a large? Called the school and they say to check the prepackaged boxes at the local grocery store. What?

Turns out it is 9" x 6.5". The Walgreens sale for 50 cents was 8" x 4.5" and every other office supply store and big box store only has this size. Any suggestions on where to locate? I did try the Schoolhouse Store and Teacher Heaven websites. There is enough of difference because of the supplies that each child will be storing in their box that I am trying to give it a good try before I tell the teacher to.... Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

There is one at Walmart that is slightly larger than the Walgreens one. it is a sterilite and the dimensions are 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 x 2 1/2. Other than that, I would tell the teacher to......

My kids are older and I have learned form past experience that there "lists" are a guide line it is ok to get what ever works for you my kids lists this year said "large" glue sticks I bought them regular ones they don't even use glue sticks that much and usually they put all the supplies in a cupboard and take out what they need when they need it. It does not go to your child. I hope that helps good luck with school shopping!

When they start buying the school supplies for me, they can tell me to get a pencil box that's 3 cubic inches bigger.

Every year (and again this year) our school puts the 16 pack Crayola (only) crayons on there. Every year the 24 pack goes on sale super cheap. Last year I got sick of it and just bought the 24 pack and did again this year. They're much cheaper and they get more crayons. They can throw the other 8 away for all I care.

Our school only wants a certain name brand scissors (don't know and don't care) and only Mead Composition books. I buy whatever is cheapest.

My son needs 5 Composition books this year. I remember when DD was in 2nd grade and she needed 5. She only used 2 (one for her journal and one for word study) and the other 3 never came home. Go figure.

One time in the school supply aisle in Walmart there was a woman who told me her kid had 9 red pens on her list. 9!!!! There's no way a kid can use 9 red pens during the year even if they used them every day for every assignment. Sometimes they're just crazy.

Don't stress. If you can't find it, buy the biggest one you can and call it a day.

My son had to have the "large" size school box last year. The only place I was able to find it was Walmart. Good luck with your search!

I was going to suggest walmart as well...honestly that's probably where all the other kids will get there's from.

My daughters list included twistable colored pencils. In my podunk little town I couldn't even find them...and was not in the mood to drive 90 or so miles to the next major town to try and look for them...so I'm having a friend of mine in Boise buy them and mail them to me. It was cheaper than amazon LOL
