One of the first things I learned moving North, is that kitty litter is a must-have in the winter for getting the car out of ice and snow! A few other uses:

Personal products:

• An inexpensive spa-quality clay mask can be made out of cat litter. Purchase an all-natural, 100-percent clay cat litter that is scent-free. Mix three tablespoons of cat litter with about three tablespoons of water, then mix with a mortar and pestle. It's perfect for detoxifying the skin.

• Make a deep-cleansing mud mask. Mix two handfuls of fresh cat litter with enough warm water to make a thick paste. Smear the paste over your face, let it set for 20 minutes, and rinse clean with water. The clay from cat litter detoxifies your skin by absorbing dirt and oil from the pores. When your friends compliment you on your complexion and ask how you did it, just tell them it's your little secret.

Household uses:

• Moisture can cause mold to grow in a gardening supplies, tarps, sleeping bags, and tents while they are packed away for the winter. To absorb this moisture, put a handful of cat litter in a sock or panty hose, tie a knot and place it in the tent or bag or with the stored supplies.

• Remove the musty smell from closets or basements: place a shallow box filled with cat litter in each closet or room.

• Cat litter will absorb any smelly leaks at the bottom of a trash can, as well as odors within the can; just place a couple of capfuls at the bottom of the can. Change the litter after a week or so or when it becomes damp.

• If you have a baby in the house, use cat litter the same way to freshen diaper pails.

• Deodorize athletic or other smelly shoes by filling knee-high pantyhose or a couple of old soaks with a cup or two of cat litter (scented is preferred), tie them shut, and place them in the shoes overnight. Repeat if necessary.

• To deodorize a stale-smelling refrigerator, pour unused cat litter in a shallow box and place in the center of the refrigerator. Unplug the refrigerator and leave the litter in for five days.

• Make your own dried/preserved flowers by laying them on a bed of cat litter in an airtight container for 7-10 days.

• Freshen old books that smell musty by sealing them overnight in a can with clean cat litter

Outdoors uses:

• Kitty litter is a must have winter supply. Keep a bag or canister in the trunk of your car. Place a handful or two behind each tire if you become stuck in ice or snow to provide traction. You can also sprinkle it on ice to provide some traction for walking or driving.

• Use cat litter to clean up oil or paint spills. A 10-pound sack of litter will absorb more than a gallon of liquid.

• You can also remove of ugly grease and oil spots in your driveway or on your garage floor. Simply cover them with cat litter. If the spots are fresh, the litter will soak up most of the oil right away. To remove old stains, pour some paint thinner on the stain before tossing on the cat litter. Wait 12 hours and then sweep clean. If you don’t want to use paint thinner, add some laundry detergent, allow to set 12 hours, then scrub up.

• Don't let a grease fire spoil your next barbecue. Pour a layer of cat litter into the bottom of your grill for worry-free outdoor cooking.

• Remove moles from your hard by pouring cat litter some down their tunnels. It’s a strong repellant…and they’ll look for a new home away from it.

After living through a hurricane with no water or elec. for a while you can use it for human waste as well.

Get a 5 gl. bucket
place grocery bag in bucket (make sure there are no holes)
Put appropriate amount of litter in the bag that is in the bucket.
place child's toilet seat over bucket with the handles of the bag hanging on the outside of bucket.
Do your thing you need to do.
Tie bag shut and put in garbage receptical.

That is a great tip!
We were w/o power/water for a week a few years back. My DH
insisted that we do our thing outside. But with 2 teen girls and a toddler girl, that was not happening. We had to drive to an area with power 3 times a day to do our thing.
But if you buy the right sort of litter, you could scoop your poop and
be ready for the next sitter! LOL

I can't believe how many times something has spilled in the car. Not a problem ... just throw some litter on it and vacuum it out the next day. Smell is gone and liquid is absorbed so no mold.

FYI use non-scoopable, non-clumping litter for traction. Scoopable when very wet is slicker than snot on a door knob.

I had a big spill of baby oil on my Berber Carpet. I put down kitty litter, then a paper towel and encyclopedias )for weight). Kept repeating until it was gone-can't even tell it was there!
This was the NON clumping litter.
