just moved from luke in az to wright patt in ohio. i must say i'm a bit disappointed with the comm so far, but i guess it's all in what you're used to. the selection is limited here for the size of it, and honestly i don't find the prices that much cheaper. but i've also noticed that food costs in general are higher here in ohio. maybe i'm just colder...

Love many, trust few, harm none
I shop here at the commissary on base (Yokota AB here in Japan). There is no where else to shop for food unless we do it outside of the base but that is all Japanese foods. We have a Costco though..I've been there a few times but all of my shopping in mainly on base.![]()
I am Conus but no longer shop at the commissary. It is just too far away to make it worthwhile. They really don't have much that we need, and the prices for most things aren't really any better.
When I did shop there on a regular basis that is often what I spent. Of course we were also living in military housing and had a large pantry. The reason I spent so much is that we didn't go there very often. Maybe once every 2-4 weeks. Exception being when we lived on Cape Cod. The commissary was just a couple of miles from my house so I could go there whenever I wanted to. However it was very small and sold limited things so I often went off base to shop.
I voted CONUS and yes, however, the commissary is about 15 miles from my house, therefore, I only shop there when I am in the area. I don't go out of my way to go to the commissary.

I live 20 min from the commissary, and have been shopping 20 min away in the other direction at local stores... i ventured to the commissary two days ago to check it out. the store is small but the prices were anywhere from $0.50 -$2.00 cheaper there than were locally. I will def. be switching where i shop, except for the super double days locally.
I live in between two commissaries. About 45 minutes from both. I make about 2 trips a month because it is worth it for most items.
I find the Air Force (where we are stationed) is cheaper then the Navy/Marine one. I thought they would all be the same but I guess it depends on the local economy. The Navy/Marine one is San Diego and they over all are higher then the next county up, Riverside. I see the difference in the regular grocery stores between the counties too.
Just thought that was interesting being that I'm in a position to compare two bases at once.

i am in the military and i am currently in pensacola. other than the walmart the commissary is 1 of 2 grocery stores here. so it is the only one i shop at unless there are great deals at walmart.
I have 2 commissaries near me. They are both about 50 miles away. Apparently Dugway PG is a smaller version of Hill AFB. There is maybe 13 miles difference between the two, with Hill AFB being the further away. I think if I can learn my way around commissary shopping (with the help of this forum) the drive will be beneficial for me to make to save money and stock up on necessities. Thank you!
