YMMV, when I bought a pack yesterday a $1/1 coupon came off at the register, like an instant coupon. I didn't know about it until my receipt printed and was able to use the paper coupon together. Total $2.49= .12 a battery.

energizer AA 20 packs are 6.88 a 20 pk and there are various $1/1 insert qs if your store doesn't have the duracells (no register coupon came off on the energizer) .29 a battery.
