Default In need of overage 101

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and new to "overage". If anyone would like to share their basic overage knowledge I'd really appreciate it, I read quite a few posts but it can be quite overwhelming. I think I understand that if you buy something that's .50 at the commissary but you have a coupon for 1.00 off that item the commissary is supposed to take the additional .50 off your total. Fingers crossed that I'm actually right on that. So my question is how do you know if the cashier actually did the overage correctly, is it something you can inquire about as he/she is scanning your coupons etc...
Thanks!

welcome to HCW!

you are correct. if the coupon value exceeds item price, you get the full coupon value. except for "up to" value coupons.

the DECA directive that allows this is linked in the FAQ thread.

see para 7-4n
http://www.commissaries.com/inside_d...0_6_JN2007.pdf

you may want to print that paragraph and always have w/ you each shopping trip.

the DECA facebook page also addresses overage.

i watch the screen as it displays each coupon scanned to verify the value deducted correctly. the overage coupons usually beep requiring the cashier to hit a button or manually enter the coupon value.

i also total up my coupons before checking out. then deduct my coupon total from the transaction total so i know what my after coupon total should be.
