I wonder if it is so much that Deca is raising prices or that the company issuing the coupon is raising its wholesale purchase price to Deca when they issue a good coupon. We may see more of the price fluctuation shopping at the commissary than at a traditional grocery store since Deca is non profit vs. a traditional grocery store that can absorb some of that cost.
I know here at the commissary I go to once the ky was out it wasn't restocked for a little bit. And I think the changes have alot to do with people are using coupons alot more now then they were last year. Several commissaries I used to go to would leave stacks and stacks of P&G inserts and the other insert laying out for customers to take on their own. Now at most places they have a rep pass them out and maybe if it gets late and they haven't run out that's when they might leave the leftovers out. You may find stacks of the other inserts because they usually can't be used anywhere else. And I hardly ever see any Q's attached to shelves anymore like I used to.

I used to hear remarks all the time from people that they were surprised a young girl would be into saving money w/coupons. I used to laugh quietly to myself cause I wasn't so young but the compliment was wonderful!! Always having a million kids in my house must be doing something for me!! I hardly ever saw anyone using coupons for years and when I would give people some they would look at me like I'd grown 2 heads. Now I see lots of men and many more women with their accordions cruising the aisles with coupons.

I don't know what their (commsy) strategy is. But I've noticed it quite often from cookies, to razors to paper plates. I know they are paying attention to our coupons alot closer then they used to. I'm not worried cause I have fun shopping at the commsy.

In 7 years I have lived at 4 different bases and all of the commissaries have had someone hand out the inserts. The only stacks of booklets ever left out where the "military only" coupons.

I have watched it happen time and time again and no I don't think it's a coincidence.

The only thing I can think of is what mom24stinkers said, it's the man. raising the wholesale price because the q is out and DECA has no choice. Deca swears they don't do it and charge only cost but if that is true why does this keep happening.

Example of price change. Used 5 coupons 1 1/2 weeks ago for Malto Meal cereal and they were $1.89 each. Now they are $2.55 each. Will check and see if they go down again on 2/28 when coupon expires.
