Default Commissary need a address of military base to send Exp. Q's

I just went through all my coupons and pulled all Q's that expire before Jan. 3. Ive read before that military bases will take exp. Q's and we can send them. If someone has an address to send these to, could you please pm it to me. I should stay within the US due to postage prices unless someone knows of a economical way to send them to a base abroad. Thanks

    MOD EDIT

please see the thread here for HCW members stationed on overseas military bases who can use coupons up to 6 months expired

    Hi,

military bases in the States do not take expired coupons, only overseas you can use them 6 months pass the expiration date. We still have friends in Germany and Italy and I send them my expired coupons, so if you can send them to me I will send them to Europe. PM me for the address! I can tell you taht coupons over there are so greatlly appreciated. Thanx

Military rates for postage are near or equal to domestic, I think.

Yes, sending to a APO/FPO Address will cost you the same as it would if you were mailing within the US.

But if you have a huge amount of them, the post office has a reduced 'America Supports You' flat rate box just for sending to an APO/FPO address. You have to use a particular box with a and its only $10.95 to mail it out. The same size box would cost $12.95 to mail within the U.S. It's the bigger flat rate box and easily holds 15 lbs of coupons.

I just recently did a RAOK and these are the addy's that I had military respond back to me.

MOD NOTE: I have edited out the real names and addresses as we try to protect their privacy, but it'd be ok to list their member name so others can PM them to get their address.

I was able to send them all in a Priority Envie that I got from the PO, as much as I could fit in there - no weight limit - for $4.85 - I was way over 2lbs. on each one, and could have fit more in, if I had them.

The only difference was on a couple of them, I had to fill out an extra form (if I could remember which ones, I would tell you, but I don't), but it took me about 1 min. for each form and no extra money.

I have been hearing back from them, so I know they got it. HTH. They all have been SOOOOO appreciative of them.

Does it have to be a Priority Mail envelope size worth of coupons? Could it just be a regular first-class letter envelope and would that just be regular first-class postage (42 cents for the first ounce, and 17 cents each additional ounce) or would it cost something different for APO delivery?

Edited to add: I just remembered reading somewhere else on HCW about a Web site ocpnet.org called Overseas Coupon Program that tells people about how to send expired coupons to overseas military and that lists actual bases that want to receive coupons now. This is their base adoption list Base Adoptions (I haven't done it this way yet; just heard about it recently and am passing on the info).

it can be any size envelope!!! So yes, the 42 cents for the first ounce and 17 centers per additional ounce applies to the APO/FPO addresses as well. Basically because you are sending to a US Base which just happens to be on foreign soil, the US rates apply. (I believe that APO stands for American Post Office and FPO stands for Fleet Post Office, but I could be mistaken on that. DH isn't here right now to doublecheck with.)

Depending on the weight of the envelope that you're sending, you may be required to fill out a customs form. There's 2 different forms, again the weight and size of the envelope/package determines which form you need. There is no extra charge for the form to be attached to the package, and they are easy to fill out. The larger form is a 5 or 6 carbonless form so you'll want to press down hard.

If it's just a regular envelope w/ anywhere from 42 to 76 cents postage on it (I don't think I have that many expireds, compared to some people), can it just be dropped off in any mailbox or does it still have to be taken up to the counter to fill out any possible forms? What's the difference between American Post Office and Fleet Post Office?

    Thanks.

I stand corrected.. APO stands for Army Post Office.

I did find this website that may answer more questions than I can.

I'm not sure where the cutoff is for needing a customs form. I'll see if I can find that out.

Ok, here's what I've found on customs forms:

First class mail - under 16oz - no form is required.
over 16oz but under $400 value -use form 2976
over 16oz and over $400 value - use form 2976A

Mail going to an APO/FPO containing merchandise. - use 2976

Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope - value under $400 - use form 2976
    value over $400 - use form 2976A
