KY Wording Question Hi, relatively new here. I found HCW a few months ago and discovered the wonder of overage at the commissary. I found, traded and eBayed a bunch of the coupons and have been using them quite happily for several months. We're stationed at Ft. Hood and I am pretty sure I am not the only one doing this. My first few times I only bought one or two boxes and used the express lane. Only had one comment and no problems. I have since worked up to buying 15 to 20 at a time and still get few if any comments and no problems. We have two commissaries and I use the main one almost exclusively.
About two months ago I decided to use the second commissary because it's actually closer to my house and I just needed a few items. My husband and I grabbed our stuff and 10 boxes of KY, not thinking about it. We got to the cashier and she rang us up and when we got to my stack of coupons she looked at them like she was looking for some fault. She then told me that I couldn't buy the KY because it wasn't what was pictured on the coupon. I told her that the wording said any. This resulted in two other cashiers and one manager coming over to examine the coupon and tell me the same thing. I restated that the coupon says any and that means any. The floor manager finally told the cashier to just "let her have them" and we made our getaway and I vowed never to return there.
So I have been using the main commissary again and having no problems until today. Today I went in to buy a box of teddy grahams for the kiddo and decided to grab one box of ky to cut the cost down. Perhaps this is what made me so conspicuous. I also headed for the express lane. The cashier took a look at the coupon after ringing me up and told me that the item had to be worth at least $3. I told her no, that DeCA policy says I am to receive the face value of the coupon and the coupon states that it is for any KY product. She says that they have already dealt with this issue today and I am going to be told no, but calls the head cashier over who then tells her to call the next person up. She comes over and tells me the same thing, I can't use it on the item because it isn't worth $3. I say no, the policy says I can and the coupon is for any. She calls the manager who comes over and takes a look at the coupon. She realizes that the coupon does say for any, and even says that to the cashier, but then decides that the issue is that the wording on the coupon says "any KY Brand, ept, uristat..." and that KY is just the brand and it has to be ept or uristat or one of the others. I tell her, no, there is a comma there and what it really says is any KY brand product, any ept product, and uristat product, and on down. She tells me that she isn't going to stand there and argue with me, but of course that is what she is doing. I tell her that the coupon's wording is for any ky brand product and she looks at the cashier and says, exasperatedly, "just give it to her" like she is giving in to a petulant child. I pay for the purchase and leave and am very ticked off. Of course I didn't bring the DeCA policy with me today, but that wouldn't of even helped, really.
Have any of you had a problem with the wording on the coupons? I mean, I know at that point she was just looking for a way to say no to me, but how do you explain proper sentence structure to such a person? I didn't want to be totally rude and say something like "No, actually, because there is a comma there you can really just pretend that everything after KY brand and before product isn't there and that will give you the wording that is relevant to this discussion", but I really really wanted to... |
