Default ALL SET THANKS....Question for VA commissary shoppers

We are renting a beach house in the Outer Banks in May and I plan on stopping at the commissary to stock up on meat and other things for the week. Is Little Creek the one I would shop at? We would be coming off the Chesapeake Bridge then be making our way to 168.

Also, do they sell liquor in the commissary? I know the commissary in Maine does not, but they do in the exchange.

And last question......is there anything nearby for children....like REALLY close? I'm hoping there is a place DH can take the kids while I'm shopping.

it'll be either little creek or oceana. oceana is the larger of the two i believe.
check google maps to be sure which is more convenient to your planned route MAP LINK

i don't shop at either but afaik, oceana is coupon friendly, not sure about LC.

i've never seen liquor at the comm

maybe he could take them bowling, library or rec center right on base.
the on base movie schedule is on their site also, though may is not listed yet.

No liquor, beer or wine is sold at the commissary as far as I know. You would have to go the to NEX package store for that.

also, if you don't already have one, an EZ Pass is great to have when traveling up/down eastern seaboard states.
ez pass lanes are always faster/shorter and no hunting for or bothering your sleeping(?) passenger to give you change.
not sure about your state, but mine charged a refundable $25 security deposit for the device. then $35 deposit to establish an account balance.

also, in case you didn't know, cheasapeake bay bridge tunnel toll is $12 or more...one way... Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel -- TOLL SCHEDULE

If you are using the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel the Little Creek commissary is the closest to your route. You would take the first exit after you get off the Bridge Tunnel and make a right. Just continue straight and the signs will direct you to base. You will go in through the gate off of Independence and once on base you make the first right. The commissary and the exchange will be visible to you shortly after you make the right. The commissary does not have alcohol, but the exchange does. LC commissary is coupon friendly and you will have no problems using coupons that are over the amount. At times I do have to request the front end supervisor (some cashiers don't like to see you get anything free), but all of the supervisors and all of the managers know the couponing policies and as long as you are right, they wont fight it. Also, they have no problems placing special orders for you.

What type of place are you looking for for the kids? I know they have a McDonald's on base. To get to it you would go straight when you go through the gate instead of turning left. There is also a food court in the exchange. If he leaves the base through the same gate he came in and makes a right there is a Taco Bell. I know there is a Cinema Cafe on Independence. It is off base and it will take about 10 minutes to get there from the base, but I don't know what their movie schedule is like. There is also Pembroke Mall off Independence. My kids are older, so I am afraid I don't really know what kinds of things to look for for younger kids. If you could give me an idea of what types of things to look for I can give you a better list. If you have any other questions about this commissary, don't hesitate to ask.

LC:

There is a gym on the base maybe he could check and see if they allow kids or check and see what movie is playing there is a base theather.
There's also a big track field...if they're into being outdoors and it's warm when you come bring a ball or a frisbee and let em run around on the field.
There's also a food court with plenty of choices
