Yes, Michaels will take a manufacturer coupon at face value. You cannot use it on the same item you are using the 40 % off coupon on.

The Michael's I shop at in Michigan makes you write down your name and zipcode when you use a Joann's coupon at their store. Not sure why they do that because when you pay at the register, they have a key they have to press for "competitors coupon" AND they ask you for your zip code for EVERY transaction whether or not you are using a coupon, competitors or store. Seems like they could gather data from the registers. IMO, seems like a big waste of their resources. Slows down the line, slows down the cashiers, and it has to annoy some customers...

I don't know the clearance schedule, but I do know that they reduce seasonal and holiday items the right after the holiday to 50% off and it's not long before it's down to 90% off. I bought some hand soap for .10 before in January. It was from Christmas so I stocked up on it and we've used it around here and I've saved it to put in a gift bag (along with other things) for my kid's teachers for this Christmas.
