    HELP Michaels for weddings

Hi all! I'm new here, so if this is the wrong place for this, just let me know...

My daughter is getting married in September (she lives in Orlando) and we have a super tight budget. So much so that I'm not sure we can afford favors. She would love to do votive candles with the damask black and white pattern or something similar. I would need to get a killer deal on them as I need at least 200. At $1 or even.75 it's too much ($150), so if anyone has a great idea for (non jordan almond) favors fitting the black and white damask (or plum or red) theme, OR great savings deals at M's with or without coupon, PLEASE let me know.

BTW - I don't go to Michael's very much now to check this deal because I always find some other deal that feels like I can't do without it, and it's DANGEROUS to the budget! lol.

We are also looking for 18-20 tall vases (for rocks and branches) hanging tealight holders (54), manzanita branches, hanging crystal chains(54)... We also might need bubbles, tealights (electric?), small votive cups(60), small bowls for flowers and candles(60), twinkly lights, etc...

Our cheap linen vendor just backed out too... aaargh!

You see how this adds up...?:shrug7:

    Thanks for ANY help!

    Hi Loringh and welcome!

I have never gotten wedding items at Michaels myself (although I have seen a decent selection at the store). I don't know what's on clearance right now, but many items are 70% off per this week's ad. If you are afraid of your ability to go in without finding other goodies, perhaps you can call your local store and find out if any of the wedding items are part of the clearance?

I recently did a graduation party for my daughter and her boyfriend and I have a few tips for you.

For the vases: It's absolutely ok if you mix and match vases (in fact, I think it's very cool). So, go to local thrift stores where you can get them dirt cheap and don't be afraid to mix and match.

Favors: If you are at all crafty you can make your own personalized candy bar labels. If not, you can buy them on ebay VERY cheap. You can also get personalized water bottle labels.

If you have a Dollar Tree in your area I suggest you look there also for vases and favors. Our DT's have a lot of great wedding stuff. I bought plain white boxes for our party and put a little of the colored shredded paper in the bottom and put in some candy, a personalized candy bar and some gumballs in matching colors. I then made a cute label for the box and cut them out and glued them on with a glue stick. Very simple and they were the hit of the party!

You can also get candles in packages at the dollar store and you can also buy a package of the round tulle. Wrap each candle in tulle and tie with matching ribbon and there you go!

If there are things that you need at Michael's always use the % off coupons that they have in the papers. They will take AC Moore coupons as well. Buy a little each week to help with the budget.

    Good luck!

We did my daughter's wedding on a budget for over 300 people. You can make several items used in the wedding. I made the wedding invitations, ring bearer pillow, her chest box, and her veil.

We bought several things from Michael's on sale, but we also bought wedding favors on clearance and redid the colors to match.

Also look on ebay for wedding favors and things, you can find nice stuff there and really cheap. You might find the Linen there. Linen table cloths were going to cost about 500.00 to rent, so what we did to cut this cost was to use linen on the bride's table and then we used the fancy plastic table cloths with overlays on all the other tables, we had lots of compliments on how nice and elegant everything looked.

Feel free to PM me and I will be glad to share tips with you

I know this wasn't something you are asking about, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I wish I remembered the name of the online company we went with, but I got bulk flowers for really cheap and we did up our own bouquets and such. I had like 200 roses for $100 dollars. The Baby's breath and greenery was very reasonable too. We covered the whole church in flowers. I got a few gallon bags of rose petals and used them for decorations all over the place. Simple and inexpensive and they got rave reviews from my guests. I used petals instead of rice too. Very pretty in the pictures!

Also, check Craigslist. I see wedding stuff on there all the time for excellent prices!

I agree with ebay for favors. I originally had planned on favors from a vendor there, but ended up doing a candy buffet for my favor instead. I will add that the buffet is what EVERYONE who talks about my wedding talks about...not the two golf outings, rehearsal dinner for everyone in from out of town, the beautiful resort or the brunch the day after. And honestly, I did the buffet for $175 for 150 people. I got all the glassware at thrift stores and my candy at the after Halloween and Valentines Day sales. It's too late for those now, but if you have access to bulk candy cheap, I would suggest that. If you want to see a picture let me know and I will try to post one! (it was my favorite part of the reception too in case you cant tell!) I also got my decoration flowers from Sams Club online. I got 100 stems of Gerber daisies for less than $75 if I'm remembering correctly. I also agree with Thrift Stores...like I said I got stuff there very inexpensively. Also do you have Hobby Lobby near you? They have their 40% off every couple of weeks that you could get stuff from also. Hope that helps!
