I don't see why they should care, it's a sale, right? Also, if they are just throwing it away anyways, you are doing them a favor by taking it out of the store because they have more room in their trashcan hehe...
The same thing happened to me - but it was at Target last year. I found some Christmas cards in April - took them to the register and they rang up a penny. They sold them to me, but the manager was grumpy about it. I didn't mind - I am used to much worse!
