I visited a VA Micheals store to look for baseball card inserts for coupons. They didn't have that type but I found some sticker insert sheets in the clearance bin. I took three that were marked $1.99. I also took a binder that was on clearance for $19.99. The binder rang up as $11.99 and two of the sheet inserts rang up as 1 cent. The third insert rang up as $9.99. I returned to the store to ask about the price descrepancy. The manager told me that any item that rings up as a penny is supposed to be thrown out. I remember reading somewhere on this web site about a woman who found a miracle sale and bought 57 photo albums for one penny each. Technically, they should have been thrown out.

Since my items were in the car, I was not about to bring them in the store and have them thrown away. The manager let me keep them and gave me 40% off of the item that was mismarked.

I want to brag about my one cent finds and let you know that employees can throw away items that ring up at a penny. It seems like a waste, but that is the policy.

Unfortunately, many retailers throw major amounts of merchandise in the dumpster. It is sickening how much it is done. Over the many years that I have worked in retail store I have probably thrown hundreds of thousands of dollars of very sellable merchandise in compactors. It makes me absoltuly sick to see all of the waste.

Yeah. I had gone to KMart last year and bought some bins. They were clearanced out to 1.00 and they were 75% off the clearance on that rack, I am expecting a quarter but they ring up .01! I was shocked and got all of them. The girl at the register was like technically these should have been thrown out, but because they were out...she had to sell them to me for a penny! I saved about 100.00 that day because I got about 15 bins. I think it's a shame that the companies can get away with throwing out good merchandise. Put it out for a penny....of sell it all for 1.00 and under. I bet it would all get bought still and they still make something off it. Or they could donate the stuff to some place that could it like shelters and get the company tax rite offs. But oh well...it really should be against th law to WASTE stuff like that.
