Rumor about registers being reprogrammed for coupons

I was really surprised today when I was able to use 5 like coupons on one order. I think it is just certain coupons that give issues. Maybe certain manufacturers. In fact, on both my orders today at the SCO, I didn't need any cashier intervention. Was a very odd experience.

Does the lafayette, IN Meijer double regularly or just when they have that special week when they advertise doubling?

Before all these issues, their registers double unlimited up to $.50. You can have 20 of the same coupon (not P&G though) & all will double!

I was at Meijer yesterday and got a few things. They had a MPerk for $2/2 MetRX Big bars and $2/2 MetRx regular bars and there was $2/2 mfr cpns in the 8/7 insert. They are $2.04-2.14 so nearly free with both cpns. I got 4 bars. The other few items i had totaled just over $2 and I had the $2 MPerk as well. Nothing was "free after cpn" but yet when i scaned the final $2/2 MetRX bar cpn it only took of 18c instead of $2.

I thought their new little "rule" was that you couldn't get anything free w/cpn if you your remaining order didn't total over 50% scan value. So nothing was free in this, why did this happen?????????
