DD3 Meijer Double Backpack Deal

Did anyone notice that there is a double deal on the backpacks at Meijer? If you buy $10. of specified Kellog, Eggo, Keebler, Cheez-It or Pop tarts you get $10.00 off a backpack. AND if you buy any backpack you get another one for $1.00. I did it and here's what happened!! I got a $24.99 backpack and they took the $10.00 off of it. The second one was actually a messenger bag for $19.99 (Tinkerbell-so cute). Then it took $13.99 off the first backpack making it $1.00 instead of taking $18.99 off the messenger bag. I wonder if I took the messenger bag back if I would still get the backpack for $1.00 or if I should go back and make them take the $18.99 off the messenger bag instead of the $13.99 off the backpack? After all it is a $5.00 difference.

I went back to see what the deal was. Here is what happened. The $10.00 came off the backpack that was originally $24.99 making it only $14.99. It then became the lowest price backpack so I got it for $1.00 instead of the $19.99 messenger bag that originally was the lowest priced. What I did was go get another messenger that was $14.99 (Not Tink:(). That made it $5.00 less out of pocket without making them return everything and start over which they would probably have to do if the replacement was less than the discounted price of the $24.99 backpack. Does that make sense? The key it to buy two items that are very close in price or the same price to get the best deal.

I had SO much issue with these deals today, it was ridiculous! I got two backpacks, one for myself which was 11.99 after markdown and one for my daughter which was 7.99. The buy one, get 1 for a dollar doesn't even WORK in my store, they just don't know it yet. But I pushed them and told them that it does INDEED run together ( both deals, that is ) and that is why Meijer is running the promotions together. ( they came up with all kinds of excuses.

" It's like using two coupons on one product. You can't do that."
" It won't work because the backpacks are on clearance."
" It won't work because it says no backpack over $9.99" )

So in the end they gave me 10.00 off of the 11.99 backpack and the Uscan took the 7.99 packback off completely. So two backpacks for 2.00, which I have to say was WELL worth it after we got it straightened out!

I got a Diego and a Dora backpack- both $12.99 because I remember reading here to get ones that are same/close in price.
It took $10 off, and then $1.99 off.
Went to CS and the guy was listening to my convo with the lady, and said that they couldn't fix it because you can't do the 2 together. I would have fought it, but we had been standing in line for checkout WAY too long and I had to go. And I knew I was going nowhere with this guy. Is everybody fighting this or what? My DH said as long as it doesn't say not valid with any other offer, we should be able to do it. Thinking about calling the store and talking to a manager.

I was at Meijer yesterday (Friday) and there were signs in the cereal and backpack aisles stating that you could not do both backpack deals together. This is the Meijer store on Springboro Pike in Dayton.

The 12.99 & 19.99 children's licensed (disney, etc) backpacks are 40% off this week (general ad).
The $12.99 backpacks are $7.99 after 40% off and you can get them free with the buy $10 of kellogs get $10 ($7.99) off backpack deal.
They had cars, deigo, dora, and toy story for the 12.99 backpacks.

So far I have bought 6 free backpacks to donate. I think my husband will kill me if I buy anymore eggo products even though I we eat them a lot. He really hates all the free ronzoni pasta I have.
