Default Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes

Ingredients
10 oz ketchup
1 T yellow mustard
1 T vinegar
4 T sugar
1/2 C water
1 t salt
1/4 t pepper
1/4 t paprika
1 large onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
2 lbs ground beef

In a large pot, mix together the ketchup, mustard, vinegar, sugar, water, salt, pepper, and paprika. Place over low heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Stir occasionally.

In a nonstick skillet, brown the beef, add onion and green pepper and simmer 10 minutes. Drain.

Pour meat mixture into barbeque mixture, and simmer 15 minutes. Add more ketchup if needed.

Can be served on a hamburger bun, kaiser roll, or as a topping for hot dogs.

Tips
Once beef is browned, mixture can be moved to a crockpot and slow cook on low for the day. I prefer the slow cook method because the flavors are more enhanced.

This recipe freezes well.

I grew up on these, although Mom made her own ketchup/chutney sauce. My brother practically lived on them! Thanks!

Kristen, very nice recipe! I do one similar to this, pretty much, I just use a can of tomato sauce instead of the ketchup. I think it gives it a nice taste.
