Here is something I learned when I first went to work for a mortgage reporting company. This was the early 80's & laws had only recently been changed (mid 70's I think).
You are a single professional woman. A lawyer. You have excellent credit. You have mc, visa (no discover at this time-lol). Around 35, you get married. You change your name and all of your credit now goes into your dh's name. But a year later, you find you married a real deadbeat & divorce him. But now you have no credit. Your husband has your good, previously established credit. You have to reapply to every credit card you had.
This was told to me by several managers at my job. Thats one reason we had to verify each credit entry so carefully...to make sure it was for the right person.
