QUESTION Competitor Coupons Acceptance at Lowe's

Just to let you know that if you use Competitor(s) coupons at Lowe's, please double check your receipts before you leave. Today we were at Lowe's buying "stuff" for hubby to finish redecorating one of our quad's bedroom. Anyway, I had a Competitor coupon that was current $5 off $25 coupon to use. The cashier and the Customer Service Manager (CSM) accepted the coupon, of course, very graciously.

Well, when we went to a Home Depot around the corner to see if the merchandise that we bought was cheaper than Lowe's and he looked at his receipt from Lowe's, he (hubby) said that he did not think that the cashier had deducted the Competitor coupon. The merchandise was cheaper at Lowe's anyway. So we went back to Lowe's and the cashier nicely explained to us that the registers deducts the amount of the Competitor's coupon by reducing the merchandise's prices.

For example, if the original price is $2.00 and the Competitor coupon is $1, the price does not show $1 off at the end of the total transaction. The original price is reduced by the amount of the coupon and it shows on the merchandise's price that you paid. Not on the end of the receipt where you would expect to see the Competitor's coupons deducted--the $5 off $25 coupon. It is figured in the price. :shrug7:

Have any of you noticed this yet when you use Competitor or Manufacturer coupons at Lowe's? I hope my post isn't garbled.

In other words, your purchase prices are reduced and you don't see the coupons taken off your totals as you would in a grocery store. I haven't used Manufacturer coupons yet; just Competitor coupons. Just check your receipts to be sure your deductions are correct.

Wow, I had no idea that Lowe's accepted competitor Q's, that's awesome!!! (guess I need to read the Lowe's thread more often, lol). Were you using those Ace hardware / TrueValue q's for $5/25 ?

The only Q's I have ever used at Lowe's are those $10/50 that they put out from time to time, But I have never used a man q there before, so I am not sure about those. My receipt from the Lowe's Q reads like this:

104629 18" corinthian medallion 24.61
26.97 discount each -2.36

etc........etc........

It is rather confusing if you just glance down the right hand side of the receipt. The first time I used one of those q's and looked at my receipt, I was about to do the happy dance cause I thought everything was on sale cheaper than I thought, but then upon closer examination, I saw what was going on.

FRUGAL FRAN and others--

Yes, it was the $5/$25 coupon from True Value Hardware stores. I have also used the Ace Hardware store coupons/gift cards $/$$ that you receive for signing up for their shopping card (same as True Value shopping card program). That is how you receive the gift cards/coupons.

You might also try Tractor Supply coupons. If you have a Tractor Supply nearby, they had a huge stack of coupons for June 2009. So check out their stores where their sales ad and catalogs are displayed in their ad stand. You will find their monthly coupons there or ask their Customer Service desk.

Good luck--

FRUGAL FRAN and others--

Just be sure that the Tractor Supply coupons are CURRENT for the week that you are shopping. For example, week of 06/22/09-06/30/09, etc. You will need a CSM or store manager to override the coupons. Be sure to use as many as you can.

Good luck--

Re: Competitor Coupons Acceptance at Lowe's

One more thing about Competitor Coupons at Lowe's--check to see if their "price-matching" policy includes Internet ads from other "Competitors". You may have to provide proof of the circular ad or the Internet ads. Never hurts to check out. Ask for the store managers not the clerks!

Here are some "other" Competitors to check out--

www.acehardware.com (Ace Hardware's site/info. Check for your local stores, etc.)

www.ferguson.com (Ferguson's site/info. Similar to Noland for wholesale plumbing etc. Check for local stores.)

www.grainger.com (Grainger's site/info. Great wholesaler for electricals and other commercial/residential products. Has a great website and catalog. Sells to homeowners too. Check out website, etc. Has local stores.)

www.graybar.com (Graybar's site/info. Great wholesaler that sells to homeowners. Similar to Grainger. Check out website, inc. Has local stores.)

www.harborfreight.com (Harbor Freight's site/info. Great store for tools, DIY-ers, landscape, agricultural tools, etc. You may have one near you. Get on their mailing list by "snail mail" or website newsletters for coupon offers.)

www.noland.com (Noland Plumbing's site/info. National wholesaler for plumbing, HVAC, and other commercial/residential products for the home and business. Great catalog and sells to the consumer. Local stores and check and out website for info.)

www.northerntools.com (Northern Tool's site/info. Great store for tools, large equipment for yards, etc. Local stores also--Harbor Freight's competition! Get on their "snail mail" or website newsletters for coupon offers.)

www.sears.com (Sears' site/info. They also "price-match". Check out their ads, etc.)

www.servistar.com (Servistar's site/info. Similar to Ace and True-Value stores. Check for local stores.)

www.sherwin-williams.com (Sherwin-Williams' site/info. Check for local stores.)

www.tractorsupply.com (Tractor Supply's site/info. Not just for farmers, etc.)

www.truevalue.com (True-Value's site/info. Similar to Ace and Servistar stores. Check for local stores.)

Also, check out Wal-mart, Target, K-mart and other retailers that sells similar products and/or exact products. Also, check for ALL paint, wallpaper and home decor stores, hardware stores, appliance stores (local and/or national stores), electronics stores, plumbing suppliers, electrical companies, HVAC (heating and air conditioner) stores, etc.

Any stores related to home improvements or home-related. You can usually buy through wholesalers too. Also, check out your local garden centers, landscape companies, and farm and tractor stores for their ads, coupons, etc. for Competitor ads and coupons.

Just look online or your local White/Yellow Pages.

Don't be bashful! ASK FOR PRICE MATCHES FROM COMPETITORS. You can ask for 10% discounts for minor/major "scratch and dent" items, damaged items, paying with cash not credit card discounts, etc. Also, price match with drugstores--any retailer is their competition! Just tell them that you shop at their stores alot and don't won't to go to another store to save money. It never hurts to try--right?:shrug7:

I have noticed that the Lowe's reciept in fact does reduce the price and does not show up at the end. The first time I went to plug in my numbers on my spreadsheet, I noticed it. So now I have to do the calculations on Lowe's before I enter data, but it is all worth the savings. I love the Gatorade $10/$50. I can always spend $50 therel
