If you paid with a credit card or check they can look up your receipt I believe up to 90 days back.
Even if they can't look it up for you, they will give you a store credit for the amount.
I have a fan I need to return and I dont have the recipt. Will they give me a giftcard or my money back? Thanks :)

yeah..both of the PP's were correct. If you paid with a credit card, they will scan your card and see if it pulls up the receipt. If you paid with cash or check, the cashier SHOULD have asked for your phone number. They do this so they can look up transactions. If neither work, they will give you store credit for your purchase, however if the price has dropped, you'll only get back the current price. Now...the new Lowes return systems is starting to track returns without receipts. Merely for fraud and theft prevention. If you return something so many time without a receipt (i think it's 3/month?), you are blocked out of the system for 60 days and you will only be able to return with a receipt. Just something to keep in mind if you are doing a lot of home improvement. hold on to those receipts!!
(yes..I'm a lowes employee)
This happened to us recently. We bought a garden hose rack and had to return it. Could not find the receipt. Good thing we paid with credit card, Loews employee was able to look it up and credit back credit card without receipt. Very easy and quick.
Good luck on the return of your fan.
Also, if you remember what day and what register it was, they can look it up. They can search by the product's sku number. It helps if you know if you bought anything else with it, in case there was a mad rush on that item that day. Sometimes they will say they can't, but I know better.<--- former Lowe's employee. It depends on how lazy they want to be.
