Lowes has a promotion going on this week if you spend $299 on your Lowes card, you can get 0% interest until January 2010. Also, if you buy a $100 gift card, you will get $20 free gift card by rebate. There's a limit of 3 rebates per household, which is perfect for us to get the 0% interest. So...here's how our transaction went:

Buy 3 gift cards for $100 each.
Have Cashier scan 0% interest promotion
Pay with Lowes Card
Get $20 x 3 by mail in rebate. Rebate slip prints with receipt.

In addition, when paying, we received an additional $10 off coupon that we could use on our purchase that day. So...this ended up netting us an extra $70 in Lowes merchandise!

Actually, the gift cards do not need to be $100 each. The offer says WYB $100 in gift cards. Which is great if you want to give Lowe's gift cards as gifts this year.

Gotta say this is an excellent deal when combined with the Coinstar one. Turn in $40 in coins redeemed for Lowe's e-certificate, get $10 additional Lowe's gift card/certificate through Coinstar MIR. Turn around and redeem your $40 e-certificate at Lowe's this weekend for gift cards (did it with no problem) along with additional gift card purchases to reach the $100 threshold, then receive an additional $20 gift card through Lowe's MIR. In summary, turn $100 into $130 Lowe's gift cards.

I think it's a pretty slammin' deal if you shop Lowe's.

Can you tell me more about Coinstar? I'm not familiar with that program. Or if it's easier to direct me to a link, that's fine, too.

the great thing about that deal was that we were already planning on spending the $300...or so we thought. It ended up cheaper than we had thought, but we have some more purchases to make soon, so we can still get them interest free....and get our free gift cards...and have some money to spend (and of course pay off in the next year) when we're ready in the next couple months. Other times we've used the no interest after $299 promo, it's been hard figuring out what to buy to get us up over the right dollar amount. Seem like we're always within about $10-$20.

I did this today with the Coinstar ecertificate. The store did not want to accept the ecert for payment for a gift card, saying you can't buy a gift card with a gift card. Hogwash! I insisted, and the manager cashed out the Coinstar ecert and applied it to the gift card purchase. Great $130 return on $100 oop.
