QUESTION Help! safety hazard! Door opens on heater

I'd appreciate some suggestions.
My little cabin in NE Washington only had electric heat. In order to be prepared for any Winter power outages, I added a propane wall heater on the only vacant piece of wall I had. But my hall closet door opens right onto the heater creating a safety hazard. I thought I'd kept aware of it but the other day, I left the door open and it got a little blackened before I smelled it.
I don't want this to happen again! I would love some suggestions. I'm toying with looking for an automatic door closer (if they make them for interior wood doors). For now, I'm sticking with electric heat and saving the propane for emergencies.
Thanks for your help.

Can you switch the closet door to bi-fold doors?

ReliaBilt at Lowe's: 30" Colonial Bifold Door

Or take the door down and change the hinges to the other side so it opens the other way.

Or you could take the door down and get a tension rod and some tall curtains to cover the door-way.

I would suggest having it open the other way if possible. If not you can go with something like this:

Lowes - Door Closer

Similar to a screen door. Also found this too:

Door CLoser

Depending on how far the heater sticks out, could you get a longer door stop to put on the top of the door so it will not open all the way to the heater edge?

Or could you put a door stop on the bottom so the door stop hits the heater and keeps the door off the heater? (Don't know if there are heat-resistant door stops).

It would be couple of dollar fix.

Is the door open only 90 degrees when it contacts the heater? Or is it open 180 degrees and it contacts the heater? If it is open 180 deg. and it contacts the heater, then you can use the door stops on the hinge pins. If it only opens 90 degrees and contacts the heater, I would switch the door to a bifold.

I was thinking of the door stop as well.

Hey, I do a lot of contracting side jobs with hubby and I would use spring loaded self closing hinges. They are a bugger to put on the first time, but a cheap and quick solution. Just replace the hinges with those. Check builder surplus stores in your area for savings. You could also use a Lowes or Hm Depot coupon for savings. If you know any contractors, they may have a set laying around. I used them on my reptile room and they get a lot of use, no signs of wear.

how about installing a door latch, one of those little screw type things with a circle at the end and on the door frame put the latch that slides into the circle thus lockiing the door so it cant swing open on its own

or you could use one of those screw into the floor doorstops, thus not allowing the dorr to come into contact with the heater
