We bought sand this year to put into the garden soil to make it looser (along with vermiculite and fertilizer). The sand was in the sand dept- yup there were 5 ripped bags which had been put into big plastic bags (saved those too!) for $1. ALWAYS look for clearance area, too.

We got ripped bags of cement for $2! These were just sitting in front of the full priced bags. We also noticed the discounted ripped bags of sand too--

sometimes they don't have the orange stripe, but are in a plastic bag.

always ask where the reduced items are and you will find it

At HD, they "made" hubby take a pallet of ripped bags, soil, mulch sand, gravel. 15 or so bags and it was $8.
I think the Lowes in my PA store does this...they never seem to have any ripped bags around!
