Re: Need Help - Buying a $2300 Lawn Mower Hi Jenward5
I work for in my parents outdoor power equipment dealership, and my recomendation would to be to buy the lawn tractor at a power equipment dealer. You will probably find that the price of the tractor is the same. You might not get the 10-15% discount but in the long run you would be better off. At my dealership (Cub Cadet and Husqvarna) the tractors have been greased, had oil checked, front end aligned, deck leveled, battery connections checked, gas added, engine run and tractor driven before it hits the sales floor. You would also have had the opportunity to drive the tractor before purchase, been given instructions on the operation of the tractor and it's safety switches. If a bagger was purchased it would be installed, the factory warranty would be registered for you, and if needed delivered free of charge.
If your tractor has any problems chances are it would have to go to the local authorized servicing dealer, and what machine do you think would have time priority, the machine purchased at the dealership or the one purchased elsewhere?
As far purchasing the extended warranty, READ EXACTLY WHAT IT COVERS, defects in material and workmanship. Some of the items (I going from memory, I don't have the info in front of me) NOT COVERED are normal maintence, wear items (belts, blades, tires etc.) problems caused by lack of lubrication, contaminated fuel, neglect, abuse, etc. While the factory warranty is in effect the only thing you gain is the pick-up and delivery (which is only for a warranty repair), and if any major problems arise it's usually within the manufacture warranty time period.
One last thing, if you do purchase the tractor from Lowes when you get it home, take a grease gun and grease it.
