    purchase vs transaction

I know this has been debated many times but I want see what everyone things about purchase vs transaction at Lowes Food.

I was at checking out tonight with 4 Gatoraids. (This store has been cracking down on Q's lately). The cashier tells me I can only use 1 Q. and I say "why"? He says, "because it says one per purchase on the coupon. The manager talked with us on this." I said, "I am purchasing 4 gatoraids. 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.." and then I explain to him that the whole order is considered 1 transaction not a purchase. We go back and forth a while and finally he says I'll let you do it this time but I'm going to talk to my manager about it when he gets back.

I'm going to talk to him next time I see him. I f they want to keep think a purchase is the same thing as a transaction then I'll be making 4 purchase/transactions back to back until they see it my way.

anyone else run into this at Lowes?

PLEASE PLEASE I hope the 'management' doesn't have this same conversation with my cashiers...Why do they have to be so DENSE!!!

I think I have had this problem ONCE but not at LF...I quickly said I am purchasing 4 and I am going to use 4 coupons in ONE transaction. I mean is this the first day they have ever seen a coupon?
And OK, so lets say it says one coupon per purchase...then you can only use one coupon total per order (whether you buy 1 or 20 DIFFERENT items)? Since you are purchasing different items but do they then say which coupon goes to which item? And if they did then doesn't that prove the point right there?
I mean if each coupon says one coupon per purchase then where in their little world would they draw the line?

You should contact CS and tell them that it isn't that difficult to understand the difference between a Purchase and a TRANSACTION. And if they are going to CONTINUE to be doinks then you will shop elsewhere. Why do they have to make it such a hassle to shop in their stores? For me stores like CVS and HT welcome my coupons, I mean HT even goes so far as to have special events for couponers like super doubles and triples-which tells me they WANT couponers in their stores. Why bother doubling coupons if they are just going to give a hassle.

If I had the time, I would go into your store and ring up each item seperately take up their time and hold up the line just to be a.....difficult person.

Whoa nelly...don't even get me started. I'm actually boycotting my nearest HT because of this issue. I had the age old "purchase v. transaction" argument twice with the same cashier- the second time she was over the top rude so I've vowed to never set foot in there again if I have to- even if it means driving 20 minutes out of my way.

Haven't had a problem with it yet at Lowe's...but I did get written confirmation from HT corporate that's in line with the common sense interpretation/definitions of purchases v. transactions. I'd say hit "contact us" tab if they have one on the Lowe's website and get clarification from them on the proper interpretation, print it out and show it to them next time you're there.

My DH did have an issue with redeeming G2 q's a few days ago at our closest Lowe's but it was in line with their written policy as I later explained to him. The q is not supposed to double as it exceeds the purchase price right now. This can be a YMMV but their written policy is in line with what the mgr was telling him at the time.

OHH believe you me I will! they may try to be diffcuilt but I'm always one step ahead of them when it comes to coupons and they know it.
let me change that WE'RE always one step ahead of them. ( but we wouldn't be if we all didn't run to the computer ever time we found a deal OR needed a deal )

I will take there new found rules and make there life a living h...

The quote below comes from ehow. I would suggest just printing this off from the website and carrying it in with you to discuss the "accepted" interpretation of "one per purchase". There are other sources that say the same thing. Take more than one if you really want to make a point

The most commonly misunderstood phrase on a coupon in "one per purchase." What this actually means is one per item. You are purchasing each item, are you not? So each item, no matter how many you have, is a purchase. It does NOT means one per transaction. If it meant that it would say so. Cashiers and even many managers misunderstand this phrase. If yours do be sure to politely ask them to check with their corporate office. Even better, volunteer to call them yourself (and have the number in your wallet or purse

I know I've mentioned this elsewhere, but either the Feb or March issue of All You has a Smart Start Q, and the wording on it is:

"offer is limited to one coupon per one 14.7 oz or larger package purchased"

I really like this. I wish/hope/pray more coupons start having this printed on them. Seems very clear to me.
