I've had this happen, but my clerk always gets the floor mgr to override the q.
I had a .75/1 Mrs. Smith's on sale for B1G1 free. The coupon expired 12/31/09 and had a 5 code. It would not scan. It was good on the item I bought. The clerk scanned it by hand but it did not double. I went to customer service and said I had a 75 cent coupon that did not double.
I was told "we do not take all coupons". This made me think that my coupon was not supposed to double for some reason, maybe the clerk hand scanned a coupon they do not take. I was questioned as to where my coupon came from. I said a newspaper insert. Then I was given a refund of 75 cents. I asked if they took internet coupons and the answer was yes, but only those that WILL scan and they can read and see the expire date. Even if it is a good internet coupon if it won't scan then they have to suspect phony coupon, I guess.
So, when I was told they do not take all coupons, I did not really find out which coupons they do not take. I'll ask next time in there.
Anyone know?

I think the registers are programmed not to double DND 5's q's. But you would have to ask the mod's to be sure.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise. It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it
.
Coupons entered manually will not double, mainly because they are not scanned and entered as a manual "grocery" discount. It is better for you for them to type the number in, but they will rarely do that.
LF's official policy is not to double DND coupons.
Any store, not just LF, can refuse to take your coupons for virtually any reason they want...but usually they will err on your side. That what good CS is all about, and LF has the best CS in the stores that we shop at. (Lowes Foods, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and Kroger)
I used my International Delight coupons today and those beep, they beep EVERYWHERE...She entered them manually and she told me the total which I knew was too high. I walked around and looked at the screen and sure enough it didn't double. I brought this to her attention and she then said "Oh because I entered it manually" and then just hit $.55 coupon two more times and sure enough it came off.
The second order I did that had the ID on them she did the same thing although this time I didn't have to ask for it to be doubled, she entered the 2 coupons 4 times.
It seems as though I remember in recent times that sometimes they did double though...maybe I am mistaken and they were coupons that beeped for a different reason-like the $.55/2 Pepsi Maxx that beeped because there was no more pepsi to give me credit for because of the BOGO Sierra Mist Q I was using during the $.59 2ltr sale.
My store has DEFINATELY been trained to EYEBALL and question Every coupon that beeps. They don't necessarily READ the coupon to TRY and figure out why it beeps they just like to tell me WHY it is beeping and look at me as if it is my fault and I did something wrong (and I am not the only one that says this about this particular store either).
Coupons are the root of all evil...RIGHT?

My International Delight q's beeped too. Then the cashier looks at me and says "Did you buy this?" I'm like yeah you just scanned it duh? So she manually entered it in twice.
