1st Timer@ Lowe's Any Suggestions

Hi there. I will be visiting Myrtle Beach next week where there is a Lowe's. These store are not located in my area. I saw that they only double up to 20 coupons per transaction and four "like" coupons per transaction. Do these stores have self-checkouts that I could do multiple transactions? Also, does anyone have an average price for Hefty trash bags? For whatever reason, trash bags do not go on a really great sale in this area often.

I have not seen a self-checkout at Lowes Foods, however I have only been in about 6 different ones. :) I will check on Hefty Bags next time I go in, but generally you'll find Lowes is higher than stores that do not double, so keep that in mind. :)

You can check out that link for prices at the store you will be visiting. Just select the city/store that you want and you will be able to search prices for the items that you want so that you can get your coupons ready to go before you ever even leave the house.

Regular prices are not really that great but when they have the item on sale and then they double your coupon you can make out like a bandit.

Also, the newer stores do have self-checkouts.

Some stores have self-checkouts, however I often have trouble using these with coupons. You have to feed them in a little slot after you scan them and if you don't wait for the little computer automated voice to tell you to put the coupon in the slot then you might end up inserting the coupon, but the computer didn't "see" it and starts blinking and beeping at you. Then you have to have an employee come and open the little box to re-insert the coupon for you or override the entire transaction. I have gotten through a multi-coupon order without this happening, but it takes forever waiting for the voice to tell me to insert each coupon. I only use them for small orders.

The cashiers are pretty friendly, and I've never had any problems beyond the occasional new employee that doesn't know how to override a coupon when it beeps. They always get help from a manager and get it worked out. I've never had any employees there accuse me of using coupons inappropriately when they beep (you know the "it says one per purchase/it beeped, I can't take it" lines that untrained cashiers sometimes utter) although some stores near me have put up signs recently that they will not accept IP's that don't scan due to fraudulent coupons circulating.

Oooo, have fun in MB! Every Lowes Foods that I have been in around Raleigh, NC have self check-outs, but if I have a lot of coupons I like to go to a real cashier because of the reason a PP mentioned. All the Lowes stores I have been to have been quick to over ride a coupon when needed without any questions. Trash bags are something I have a hard time finding a stock up price on too and we have pretty much the same grocery stores where I live that they have in MB, so I don't know how much luck you will have with finding them in MB either. One nice thing about LF is they will double a coupon under $.99 even if it starts with a 9. My LF has self checkout. I find the prices here are not much different than the Harris Teeter and Food Lion. I am in Charlotte.

My Lowe's has a self checkout but they will only allow 5 coupons to be used and you cannot do multiple transactions, this is a new policy put in place apparently b/c of 2 or 3 people (one of the self checkout cashiers told me about it). They have even gone so far as to tell one lady that she can't use the self checkout at all any more.

Sorry to go OT there - to answer your question OP, I would suggest going through a line even if they have a self checkout. Can you take a friend or family member and do separate transactions that way?

The cashiers at my store usually have no problem with my doing multiple transactions. That being said, I have never done more than 4. And I only did that many because I had 2 WIC vouchers that each have to be done on their own.

Thanks for all the tips. I will have family with me so we'll just line up and get it done. With the exception of my son, I was just counseled. He said he will be staying at the beach house. Can't say I blame him. Who schedules their vacation around the Super Doubles store? I guess you all would understand.........
