I was actually trying to find boxes in the Dollar General dumpster for my sister and found a New in the Box sliders machine (box was bent up) and several new picture frames...

I have found countless things like brand new binders (never can have enough of those), tote boxes and a full bag of cat litter (not used).
I had sanity once upon a time I promise. It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it

Man, where I live it doesn't get better for curb shopping. So many interns and students move in and out of this neighborhood it's unreal.
Only lived here 6 months and so far I have gotten all of this out of the trash:
Kelty hiking back pack
a bike
full bottle of Tide detergent
Headboard for guest room
old antique dresser that I'm gonna refinish for the guest room
metal shop shelf for our utility room
nightstand for our guest room
several test prep books for DH to study for his GMAT
and a bunch of ties for DH
I wounder how much stuff there will be out and about now that the weather is getting nicer? I'm thinking more people would be more inclined to have a yard sale instead of just putting the stuff out by the curb. We'll see.

i use to work at the local private university. it was great when the kids moved out. i got a huge old looking coffee table that was real wood and heavy. loved that coffee table and all i did was wipe it down with wood oil and it was perfect.
my friend owns rental property and he gets lots of goodies. i work for him two summers ago and got two brand new drawer plastic things that i put my stockpile stuff in. he just had a tenant leave everything. he stored for the amount of time he should and now i have a deck table and chairs to get from him for nothing!!
and yes, summer is coming and i love just driving around on garbage day!!

Once a year our community does a spring clean garbage pick-up for FREE. People clean out everything and put it on the curb. It is pretty crazy as folks drive around in pick-ups and rental trucks picking through garbage - furniture, household goods, lots of great stuff.
Yeah its great! The only other time I've had this great of pickings was on a military base overseas.

That is cool! I don't really see much on the curbs around here because we are not allowed to leave large items for the trash collectors. All large items have to be brought to the transfer station for proper disposal. In the city where I used to live, the town did trash removal, and they would take anything - mattresses, furniture, outdoor toys, whatever. There was a lot of trash picking there!
My sister stopped at a house where the people must have been moving. They had all sorts of stuff out there but right on top was a beautiful vase. When she showed it to me, I knew it was valuable. We took it to an auction house and it sold for $1,300.00. I wonder how much it would have went to if we would have sent it to Southeby's or another well known auction house.
