    SMILE Re: Starting the New Year - What are your goals?

    I will probably come back and add to this list.

    * work on my marriage
    * deepen my relationship with Jesus
    * make church (scripture, fellowship, prayer, breaking of bread) a priority for my entire family)
    * get fit/toned
    * simplify my life

    Considering I just (1/14) got Christmas put away, I'm still on track, just a little "delayed."

    I have not thrown out any food! "All You" magazine just came, and had some terrific ideas for using up food, (no link, sorry) which I will post on the fridge.

    We have been eating "out of the basement" for weeks now, from the freezer and the downstairs pantry. I "shop" from there for the week. The only grocs. I have been buying are fresh veggies and dairy. I have a huge stash of cheap butter in the freezer.

    I have not bought anything for my kids, nor have I interefered/offered any advice, or run interference for them.

    well for me shopping one day a week hasn't really worked out. The first week I went to the store on 2 different days, justified by the fact that I was passing by the store a second time (I have to go out of my way to go to the health food store I like). Last week I was going to go to that store again for organic produce (my local stores don't have nearly as much organic) but hubby made a comment about the gas to get there (10 miles away) so I hit my local store instead along with a trip to rite aid...Then 2 days later I got a coupon from the healthfood store for $10/$25 order so I ended up going there the last day I could use the coupon (good for 36 hours!)...Had to go to Walmart the next day for some non food items and ended up getting a few junk food items my kids eat. That was Thursday, it is Sunday now, I am considering running up to my local store because last week I found a bunch of mark down produce on Sunday but that is all I would get. I only need organic milk this week and it is on sale at this same store too but want to wait until Tuesday (last day of sale) to get the milk enough to last a week.

    love your #7!

    it was so fun for the boys to take their boxes downstairs to the basement
    and "shop" the stockpile for their Christmas boxes this past year!

    -Be more active. I'm trying to go on walks more, maybe join the gym, but I want to focus on being active and outside.

    -Meet my business goals. I'm starting a business this year. I've started other small ones in the past, but I need to make this one a grown up business that can really help out with our finances once it gets going.

    -Pay off all debt (we're almost there!) and start an emergency savings fund

    -Create a decent stockpile. I took a pretty long break from couponing, with a few trips here and there, because we moved to a town with fewer stores and I couldn't hit a few of each type of store to get everything I wanted. I'm starting to get back in my groove.

    -My husband and I just got married in October and I want to make sure we make these years with just the two of us extremely special.

    -Be a better vegetarian. I'm already doing much better with meal planning, but I hope to keep it up! No more living off bagels and spaghetti ;)

    I haven't thrown out much food at all. Been very conscientious about keeping track of what's in freezer, pantry, and what's leftover.

    Have cut down on eating out. I love going out to eat, but it's an unnecessary expense.

    Have lost three whole pounds. Big whoop.

    Have kept out of kid's business, and DH and I keep saying, 'were we that stupid at that age?'

    Well, so much for twice a week for groceries..though it is easy to do at the end of the month, impossible to even be close the beginning. Since Feb first I have been to Petco (but hopefully that is a once a month thing) once, Costco, Earthfare Twice and Harris Teeter twice (though I literally ran there today for a cup of yogurt) and Walmart twice (I forgot something the first trip). I have to hit Rite Aid this week I have $20 to spend before Sunday.
    We have only gone out to eat once since new years, well I have only gone once, hubby has to for work (so he claims but that is with his allowance).
    I have been doing really good with not tossing food and trying to use up left overs. It is hard to judge how much food to make sometimes, I have a 21yr old that isn't always home for dinner. Hubby likes to take leftovers for lunch. I have made several batches of soup so he can take it for lunch when there are no left overs.
    I have also been cooking much healthier with veggies with every dinner. I have done a lot of organics and tried a few new foods like gluten free pastas, spaghetti squash, broccolette.... Only buying very few processed foods, breakfast cereal and cheese crackers and in a moment of weakness a big thing of organic animal crackers.
    I have found organic milk that is even more expensive but it tastes great and is not homogenized. I have also only bought local eggs since Jan 7th.
