Do it! The quaility is so much better, plus it's wonderful to have all of the beef options in your freezer ready to use. Our last bill (june 2011) for a half a beef with processing fees came out to around $2.50-$2.60 per pound.
My brother and I have tossed around the idea of buying a cow for slaughter and sharing it. We've never done it. What is an average price for one and how much meat? Is this a good deal compared to buying the meat at a grocery store?

Proud mom to an adorable two year old little boy!
Please excuse my spelling-my LO is on the loose and just learned how to climb-so I am typing as fast as I can!
How many pounds did you get?
396 lbs
I also pay a bit more for them to do chicken fries instead of round steak.

I only split a butchered cow purchase one time. My family really only uses the steaks, hamburger and chuck roast. While I agree the hamburger was far superior to what I get for .99/lb. at the store, it wasn't worth the overall greater cost.

Where do you get said cow? Is there a website or something that you can look up local farmers that have them?
What size freezer do you have to have to store all of it?
