What does it seem like everyone else has and you don't but your too cheap to pay for it?

A few minutes ago I was on facebook and I noticed my neighbor replied to something and she is not home..Sure enough it says sent via android.

She barely uses the computer why does she have an android phone?

I just got texting a few months ago (+$7 a month) and told my husband tough I am getting it though I am the only one that has it on their phone (and I LOVE IT!) I have one of those "old" phone so I have to press the number a bunch of times to get the letter I want...but good enough for now. I am not a queen (though they really should treat me like one) and I have gotten over keeping up with the Jones' but golly I just feel like I am being left behind sometimes! We have 2 beater cars (1995, 1996)and my son drives the newest vehicle and it is a 2000. So I don't even care about looks.

It just seems like everyone else has one and I am one of the poor schleps that does not.
To get an android phone I would have to pay up front PLUS I it is another additional $14.99 a month on my plan (I can not switch plans we have 5 phones and are tied up for the next 20 months)...

We don't have cable TV either; but we have cable internet and stream what we want.

Ummmmm - to answer your question it would be all the fancy features on the car. My BIL just bought a Subaru that when you back up it has a camera view of where you are backing on the rear view. I am just too cheap to put any more into my car payment and too cheap to have more than one car payment but the gadgets on the newer/expensive cars are cool.

We have 1 TV also, and didn't have cable until we moved out here to MD. I think everybody has Ipods, Iphones, Ipads...we have none of those and honestly don't want for them either. Oh and our video game system is a gamecube...yep we get our games for $15(at most) from game stop. We also drive a 1998 Durango with over 170,000 miles, but it is paid for and runs.

We do have 2 computers but 1 is broken right now.

OK well we love our gadgets and electronics. I usually get a good deal (except for my iPhone it was outrageous what I paid for that because it was an unlocked phone because we did not have AT&T here.

But out town has a pretty good percentage of people with a lot of disposable income. The recession has not really affected us. We have jobs, housing market has held it;s own, etc. So with that disposable income all of our friends have new cars, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers and RV's. On the new car front, I won't buy a brand new car unless I can pay cash for it. I refuse to finance anything. Plus my vehicle which is a 96 Murcury Mountaineer is in great shape and I got such a great deal on it, a little over 5000 cash, it is fully loaded and I love it. DH needs a newer truck...his is an 84 Toyota and it is on it's last days.

My DH wants the big boy toys...I too would love a snowmobile or two. We had a blast going snowmobiling earlier this month (rented). So we are going to save our pennies and see if we can find a deal by next winter.

Also I want an iPad...but will probably be getting one in a few months or so. I have been saving.

All the gadgets and toys...we can have them if we save and pay cash for them. All of my friends who have all these new toys, are in debt to pay for them. Everyone is always going to Rapid on the weekends to go shopping (Rapid City SD, the "big city" near us, almost 3 hours away). While we stay at home and save our money.

I personally will never have a expensive phone. I work in CS and talk on the phone everyday Monday-Friday. The last thing I want to do in the evening or on the weekends is talk on the phone. I don't need the whole texting thing either I'd rather call you tell you what I need and hang up.

What I would love is to take nice vacations but I'm too cheap to fork out the dough. Of course some of the people I know that take them are sooo far in debt.

I guess it's all about being a saver for me. I hate to spend money on stuff I don't "really" need.
I had sanity once upon a time I promise . It was just so long agoooo that I can't remember it.

    Ok, now I have more!
We don't have cable tv or direct tv, just plain old antenna...BUT I will say, I don't miss it. We had direct TV for over 15 yrs and gave it up in October and I honestly don't miss it. We DVR stuff and watch stuff though our computer and Xbox...Though I wouldn't mind seeing this Extreme Couponing show everyone is talking about!
We have 263,000 miles on our 1996 Saturn ( I hate riding in that thing! IT is so low to the ground). 161000 on our 1995 Explorer and 100K on our 2000 Ford Ranger...No complaints on any of them and we are the original owners of the Saturn (yes it honestly is mostly highway miles it does make a difference).

Nice vacations, thanks for that Christina, for the past few years we have talked about doing a week vacation at the beach, like our neighbors do EVERY YEAR, our other neighbors do EVERY YEAR and my other friend does several times a year...I checked out the price...We would be hard pressed to do it for less than $1000 and that is just the cramped condo not including any food, gas to get there or doing anything when we got there. So yet again we are not doing that this year...If we can't pay cash we can't do it...and this "cash" for vacations is solely funded by my refunds but also goes towards Christmas...It just kinda bums me out when I go on facebook and see everyone's pictures of them at the beach. Once again this year I will just post my pictures of us camping, me and my hair not washed, dirty camping clothes (it is a filthy sport), our TENT and makeshift rooms made from tarps (it keeps us busy) and of my kid sleeping 12 hours a day out of sheer boredom.

    Ummm...pretty much everything!! LOL!!

I don't have a cell phone. Hubby has one, but it's only because his place of employment requires him to have it...supplies it...and pays for it.

Our cars are a 1998 Bonneville (mine), that makes a horrible sqeaking noise constantly, but we can't figure out what it is...and a 1996 Grand Am (his) that we paid $250 for (and it looks like it!).

No ipods, etc. here either. Our 15 year old gets CDs from the library and listens to them on her portable CD player. Our game consoles are a Nintendo 64, a Game Cube and a X Box. No Wii...or any other new ones.

I haven't been inside of a mall for years!! I don't even know what "new" clothes or shoes feel like! We buy everything at Goodwill or garage sales.

No vacations or nights out here either. Our "date nights" are movies from the library, and something on the grill...or homemade pizza.

It seems like everyone I know has all of the new things. New phones, new cars, new clothes, and they go wherever they want, whenever they want.

We don't have all the ipads and what nots either it dosen't do anything for us. We shop around for basically everything. We learned about a furnatuire clearance center. This was after we bought and paid for our 5 piece bedroom set and living room furniture, We were able to buy a huge entertainment center for like $200.00 and it was over $2100.00 sold in perfect shape it needed touch up markers and I built shelfs for it. Our oldest sons bed room set came from the clearnace center minus the mattress. His was what they call the Monster bed set looks like steel plate that has textured tire metal stuff ....lol and a dresser that resembled a tool chest real cute set over $900.00 if perfect small dents in hardley noticeable places we paid a little over $200.oo for the set. Then found a beautiful oak bunk bed set with book shelf, dresser and desk on craigs list $200.00 Bought our kids a used trampoline for $15.00 and back in '07 I used my bonus check from work and a couple was selling an already built swingset for $425.00 it would have cost thousands to design and build, It is built out of cedar and it is huge! We had to rent a uhaul and cut the bolts to disassemble it. Well worth the time. So What I am trying to say is we get the things we need/ansd want and save tons and it feels good to have no payments on really nice stuff. Our ds is still playing his playstation 2 video gamming system, he earns an allowance almost has enough saved he wants a ps3. he is learning to save before he buys He wants brand new which is fine it is his money. ( he earns an allowance each week for doing the dishes and runnning the vacum (if asked)
I guess the point I am trying to make is all brand new stuff, we are fine with second hand it is just the same with in reason. I love getting a good deal. I will never forget the look on the school secratarys face when last year she was like ooooh I love your sweater! Did you get it at Old Navy I said no, I got it at the second hand store... lol I think it is Kmart brand though.. LOL the look was priceless. My van is really rough on th bottom all the winter salt is rotting the driver side looks yukky but I don't mind it takes me there and brings me back that's all I can ask for.

We really live a simple life we do have cable, internet and a big screen tv, but we spend most of our time home together as a family. We really don't do much so what we have we try to keep it simple and reasonable and enjoy it all together.
