Ours is $135 every 3 months for pickup 2 times a week (no trash limit) at the end of our driveway. Recyclables are picked up once a week (no limit). Cardboard boxes must me broken down. Large trash pickup is once every 3 months (only 2 large items allowed such as furniture, mattresses, etc).

We pay $25 a month. Our garbage gets picked up twice a week. It is a small, private owned company ran by a friendly, local guy. We set our trash in a pile with our neighbors between our houses and the man comes up our driveway, basically to our door to pick it up. He's great and it saves us the trouble. Although, saving the $300 a year would be nice too. We save all of our soda cans-quite a collection-and give them to his parents once every two weeks to recycle at their community recycle.

Ours is 45$ for 3 months - and you reminded me that OPPS it needs to be paid before Thursday or they won't pick up this week. It's worth it though, because in our county they have "pay as you dump"...where you can use the local landfill for free, but the trash HAS to be in a "coweta bag". They are large trashbags that the county sells in various sizes. It's 1.99 for the largest size and it holds 3 trashbags without sealing (sometimes the operator requires you to seal the bag, other times not).

So......it's worth it to me to just pay the 45$ and not have to worry with it!

We take our trash to what they call the "convenience center". It is free for county residents. The closest is a couple of miles and then there is another that I can use on my way to my fav CVS. We can have garbage pickup - private sanitation company - but they quoted us $75/month. I would rather save the $75 per month.

I actually did this very thing earlier this year to save money. We were being charged $65/2 months and if the lid did not close on the garbage can we were charged for an extra bag.

Our dump is located about 20 miles away. We use the heavy storage bins to store the trash bags. There is an $8 minimum charge which is what they charge per ton. It takes us 6 weeks to pile up that much garbage along with adding old stuff from the barn which we are trying to empty out little by little. Even with one or two extra trips per year for holidays or family staying with us, I figure I spend $80 in drop off fees. If I add the fuel for driving down there in my truck that's about $60 per year. So I went from paying $390 a year (assuming I would never have any extra bags) to paying $140 per year for gas and drop off and I included an extra trip in this figure. I'm saving $250 a year. My goal next year is to reduce this by having my family do a better job recycling and sorting. With 3 kids under the age of 5, we are still learning.

For my family; it's worth it. Reading some of the other comments, they have a low pick up costs.

We pay $16/month included on our water, so it's mandatory. Pickup is once a week, and recycling every other week.

Honestly, you could save that much a month if there is a place that you can take your recycling to that pays for metal/aluminum. My mom used to get $8-$12 a month for aluminum when we were kids. (mostly from soda/beer cans)

My aunt lives in the country, and burns her trash. What can't be burned goes to the dump once a month - one bag at the most.

I am lucky. My dad works for a roll off service. He takes it for me.

Ours is around $10-$15 a month. (not sure because its included in the water bill) They take anything and everything your put out there. Its only once a week pickup but they have recycling and brush pickup every week.
