Default The glares, stares and general disgust from cashiers as of late

As the title says, this is a huge VENT.
Ever since Kroger pulled the d/t from the Houston market, and 'that show' has been on the air, I've been getting THE nastiest attitudes from Kroger cashiers over coupons.
I am a nanny, and I do the grocery shopping for the entire household, which usually is upwards of 600+ a month.
I used to EXCLUSIVELY shop at Kroger.
    Not anymore!!

I've been avidly boycotting them as much as I can, however, certain deals come along that grab my attention (such as the Ivory bodywash, because it is free and it is the only B/W besides Aveeno that I use) and I go in to get in on it.

First of all, usually the FIRST day of the sale, the shelves are wiped clean. So what do you do? Get a raincheck! Annoying, but hey, whatever works.

Then when I go to redeem my raincheck (and spend $168.xx in the store because I decided to do my weekly shopping there -- made me ill to fork over the money!!!), and what happens? The cashiers sigh, glare, roll their eyes, and all but give me the finger.
Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. These ladies (and gentlemen as a man did it to me again tonight at a separate store) get SO bent out of shape over a freaking raincheck!!!

    They hassled me over:
    Quantity
The store stamp isn't on this raincheck (hmm well maybe you should go talk to whoever signed it, that's their issue not mine)
Time consuming (uh, sorry, was trying to follow coupon policy, etc)
"You can't get those for free" (yes I can)
    Etc etc etc

Since when is customer service so....rude?!

Last night, when I purchased my 168 worth of groceries, the cashier got to the end and I had my raincheck items. I told her about it ahead of time, and then told her again as I handed her my rainchecks. She turned around to another cashier as she rolled her eyes and held up my raincheck as if it were a bomb or something and said "She has these rainchecks....and coupons!"
    Uh, is that a crime?
The lady behind me with the beer was getting antsy, and so was I. Then I realized, I left my coupons for the raincheck items at home.

So I have her cancel it before she even begins, and leave. Come back, get a young teenage girl cashier and she sighs, moans (literally) and actually put her head down on the register because of 'all those items, we must do it manually'.
Well, sorry your computer system sucks/is subpar/antiquated, but hop to, missy, I have eggs in the car!!!
Finally she gets done doing the raincheck price override thing, and scanning everything, and I give her my coupons...I SWEAR on my hairspray that that woman literally fell back as if her knees gave way.
And we're not talking 100's of items here. We're talking about literally 28.

Then cashier tonight, before she even STARTED, called the 'manager' over to 'help' her with the raincheck, when I explained there were instructions as to how to use it on the back for cashiers. Then when I asked what was wrong, she said "I need him, ok?"
    Ok...?
The male cashier who was walking around in some kind of special red vest (woooo) came over, but yet couldn't help the girl with whatever 'issue' was there, and went to go find a "manager."
What was he? Who knows! 'Red vest guy,' I guess.
The girl says "there's a problem" and I ask what, she says "I don't know..."
And I said "YOU CALLED HIM OVER?!"

Anyway, they begrudgingly let me use my raincheck and coupons. Oh, yay. Thank you, Kroger.
Then he told me (after I vented to him about why I refuse to shop there anymore, and how I don't appreciate the attitude everyone gives me over coupons and rainchecks) that he would 'tell someone who cares...er...can help. A manager."

Whatever, dude, I hope your store tanks. The frees aren't worth it anymore to me to even step foot in that store.

I hate to hear that...I really like Kroger's because of the double/triple coupons. I have been shopping there, with coupons, way before couponing was popular. I always make sure to meet the new managers and go over my expectations as a shopper and a coupon user. Whenever I have a "big" or time-consuming load, they have switched the light off and opened another register for the other folks. This seems to have worked out well for me... I do agree that poor/nasty service should not be tolerated; but why give up your "free" stuff and good deals because of an employee??? I would have a face-to-face conversation with whoever is "top dog" at that store and follow up with a letter to his/her boss. Good Luck!

I agree with MaMaHaHa since I've had the same experience with an elderly cashier @ my local employee owned grocery store. I usually shop after taking DS to school and this lady is the only one @ the register. As much as I want to avoid her since she's not very pleasant, I know I'm following the rules so I don't expect problems. Wrong. She'd find problems in ALL my coupons just so I can't use ANY. One time, instead of losing my temper, I just told her, "ma'am I'll cancel this trxn till the SM is available. thank you for your patience." I know she was mad I left everything instead of paying sale price. When I got home, I wrote to corporate for them to tell me IF there are new rules that I may not be aware of. I got a lengthy response answering my email in detail why I should've been able to use the coupons for the items I was buying. They told me my understanding of the rules was correct. I was told to call for the SM SHOULD I have more problems not only with that cashier but other cashiers.

Fast forward to next shopping venture, the same cashier was there, I said good morning, she replied with a grunt When I gave her my coupons, she pulled out a magnifying glass (I swear she will do anything NOT to take coupons) but I let her. Meantime, I began pulling out my email from their STORE DIRECTOR (higher than the SM) but didn't say anything while she scrutinized and matched my coupons. There was .99 item with a .50 Q that would double to .99 and I'd get free. She said she didn't know how to do doubling if it exceeds the price of item. I told her to put the doubles @ .49 instead of .50. She was very passive/aggressive during this whole time. But at the end, it was victory for me; I may not be able to change her attitude if she wants to be grumpy, so be it. BUT not at my expense or my savings All the other cashiers do not give me problems and serve with a smile. I feel bad for someone who's always miserable.

There are ways to fight without getting ugly.

That's the thing, I don't want to fight, argue, etc. I'm just tired of it. It's not just those two stores, it's nearly every one in DFW now, it seems.
I went to one near Bedford, close to my moms. I was doing a MEGA sale and so I had to have 10 (participating) items, and had 4 of one thing with Q's. The Q's were $1 and so they didn't even double, but they wouldn't let me use more than ONE LIKE Q per order. I said that makes no sense, they don't double, etc....and how can someone shop for Mega sale like that?!

I wound up voiding the whole thing and walking out.
It's incident after incident there and I am NOT a happy camper. I've written corporate and don't get any response besides the generic auto-reply email.

I'm just tired, and done with them. Praying for Walmart to bring doubles to our region!!!

I sympathize with your frustration. However, going to corporate is useless. Corporate isn't the boss for your store employees or your store managers. Going to the top is a mistake - they are too far removed from the store. Find out who the district/regional manager is for your stores (it will be the same the person likely for all the stores in your city) - that's who you need to talk to. If that person is willing to hear what you have to say and want to fix it, you might get somewhere.... However, if they are just like the employees in all their stores, you will see why there is a problem in the stores in the first place.
