    QUESTION Fuel Rewards

So, heard from my dad in Denton that today he got gas and it took off the full .90/gal for the 900 points they had on their card. Anyone know if this is just a promotion or are we getting up to a dollar off in DFW?

Kroger Couponers Facebook group has seen articles from Kroger that this is in effect in all but a few states now. ... We've also seen postings that the end to d/t has already or is approaching the whole SW Division, and policy changes in other regions, as well.

Apparently, the only Kroger shoppers that get to have FULL coupon benefits are the people that agree to go on a show that fails to practice ETHICAL, RESPONSIBLE, AND LEGITIMATE coupon practices, while Kroger shows DECEPTIVE COUPON-ACCEPTANCE POLICY.

Aren't you so happy that WE get blamed for THEIR corporate decisions?! I know it just "thrills" me ... NOT!
Of course, they push the "so convenient and dependable" digitals which don't d/t. Their biggest goal is to end paper coupons, period.

My ad this week has a huge advertisement (page 7 of 9 online):

"NOW shop at Kroger & save up to $1 per gallon on fuel when you redeem up to 1,000 fuel points at Kroger Fuel Centers"

    which sounds great, until:

"or save 10c per gallon on fuel when you redeem 100 fuel points at Shell"

So it sounds like the $1/gal thing is only for Krogers with a built-in fuel station?

You're absolutely correct ... "up to $1/gal in ONE transaction up to 35gal" ONLY at Kroger stations. -- Not much of a deal if you don't have pumps at a Kroger near you. Add to that, they took our d/t Qs 4/13/11 ...

I was just thinking the same thing reading the ad. Not much of a deal if you have to drive 10+ miles just to get to a Kroger that has a fueling station (which I do). I'd use most of my saving just driving there and back.

But, there are Shell stations ALL around me...

Just to throw some math at this, here is my way of looking at things. Please note, this excludes wear and tear on your vehicle and the tires on it for the miles to and from the Kroger fueling station.

Example 1: Assuming your tank is standard and holds somewhere between 15-25 gallons minimum. Granted, most of us aren't going to want to run it out, but the smaller tanks are usually only on vehicles with better mpg. The math should work out small cars are picking up at least ten gallons at -$1 each for a savings of ten dollars or twenty on the other vehicles for at $20 savings. I'm assuming you won't bother to make the trip specially for less than as close to a full tank purchase as possible. Since the vehicles have different mpg as well as tanks, we'll assume the average of 1 gallon for the trip, and you'll probably hit that store for a tears and peelie hunt while there. Am I right? Your trip would have cost around 2.50 in cash and $1 in savings. I'd say your more important investment would be your time. If, as in my part of the country, the bigger stores have the fuel stations and more peelies, tear pads, clearance, and product selection, you only need a present or future savings of $3.50 to make the trip worth while. You have still wasted the time traveling to and from. Time IS precious!

Example 2: Assuming your monthly points value is enough to generate the 1000 points required for one dollar off fueling, your alternative is to purchase gas ten times at ten cents off per fueling. If your tank would have taken just ten gallons to fill at the dollar off per gallon ratio at a cost of one gallon for the trip, you then need to instead save at least $9 over the course of the month at ten cents off per gallon to achieve similar savings. This means you need to purchase a minimum of 90 gallons to break even, and you've missed checking the other store for peelies, tearpads, and clearance. You have saved yourself twenty minutes of time, though, which could certainly be worth more to you!

It seems that you can take that option of using all of your total in one fill-up (like your .90/900) though I've yet to try this at Shell. Last month it gave me .60 for my previous month's worth of 600. At 15 gallons, $9 is a good discount. This month, my husband used the .80 discount on his SUV.

The only reason we even get our monthly total that high is at there are 3 of us using that account, and our coupons are included. The only time we ever reach over 1000 is during the holidays and that includes business expenses.
