I've never seen smoke coming out of the Chron building. I'm sure they recycle them.

I've found coupon inserts in the free papers produced by the Chron. These insert were different in a couple of ways, the frees are missing and the values are a little off.

I asked my Chronicle distributor about getting some extra coupon inserts and he said they have to return the entire paper intact to get credit for it. Someone I know 30 miles up the road gets dozens of extra coupon inserts from her distributor because he told her that he just needed to turn in the front section to get credit. Go figure!

That's what I've had a store tell me ... said I could take ALL the paper, just leave the front section. Think your distributor just wants someone to pay.

Got tickled last Sunday, went into a store where I normally try to buy papers now, and lady was apologizing because "someone came in here and bought 5 newspapers" and if she'd remembered I hadn't come yet, she'd have discouraged them from buying so many .... I told her, "Thank you, but that's GOT to be another couponer, and I shoulda gotten up here earlier and got those 5 papers!! So, if she beats me in here again, don't fuss at her! she's just trying to save money!"

Thanks! Sounds like something he'd tell me. He got really mad at me once because I called the Chronicle when my paper was 2 hours late. He called me and said that he loses money when one of his subscriber's calls the Chronicle with a complaint and told me to call him directly when I have a problem. Next day, a colored 8X10 sheet of paper typed with his cell number telling all his subscriber's to call him and NOT the Chronicle if they have a delivery problem.

hope you told him you'd have been happy to, if you'd had his number in the first place!

sounds like a reasonable solution ... as long as late delivery doesn't get to be a habit!
