    DD3 Houston Chronicle $1.00 UPDATED 2-22-10

If you ask nicely at your favorite Kroger you might be able to pick them up on Monday.

    Just an FYI.

    P.S. Remind them you're a loyal customer.
P.P.S. Check and make sure the coupons are still in there.

thanks for the idea ... went to the one in Rosenberg a couple weeks ago, late Sunday afternoon ... barely got the number I needed at regular price -- the cost of people cocking their heads wondering what the heck I was doing piling papers in my basket ... PRICELESS! started to tell them, "you should see the size of my indoor dog!! ... hope this lasts a week!" or, "well, I keep reading different copies, hoping the story will end differently ..."

I asked my fave self check cashier, who I periodically bribeImeanreward with jewelry for putting up with my multiple evening transactions and copious amounts of coupons. She called the manager and asked if their very longtime and loyal customer could buy the papers for a reduced price.

Ok, so for some reason certain people in our neighborhood (not Chronicle subscribers) started getting this midweek mini Chronicle thing with RP/SS inserts, Parade, and a few other little things from the Sunday Chronicle. My neighbors give me theirs, and right now there is an offer from the Chronicle - $1.00 a week for the Sunday paper, and according to the CS dude, you can call back as many times as you want and add another paper on; you just can't do it in the same order.

Like going to the .99 cent store, except you only have to walk out into your front yard!

Go to: Best Deal or call 888-865-1265.

we've been getting those, but thought the deal said it was an introductory offer (as though, it'd be $1/wk for xx weeks, then some other price) ... If it's for a year, might be worth it ... then just a matter of coming up with $52 per order.

For the life of me, I still can't figure out how it's cheaper to get 200 newspapers on home delivery route (more stops, more miles ... to carrier) than to deliver 200 papers or more at ONE location by carrier ... unless carriers get about 20¢ per paper they deliver [STRICTLY a GUESS]. Then, again, that probably IS the case. Back in the old days newspapers didn't allow anything on mileage OR fuel for carriers, don't know if they do now or not. If they allow any now, it would make sense for a one-ton+ truck to have a larger allowance than a smaller vehicle, so I guess that's they're reasoning.:hectic1:

Yes, this is an introductory offer, but I was told when I placed my order that I could either:

    1. Lock in the $1.00/week rate by giving them free access to my card and letting them charge it $20.00 every 20 weeks.
    2. Letting them contact me 3-4 weeks before the subscription ends and giving me the option of renewing at the $20 for 20 weeks rate.

    I chose #2.

When I asked if he could take an order for another paper while I had him on the phone, he said this was just the number for new subscriptions, and gave me the number for existing customers, except when I called that number, I wasn't in the system yet, so I wasn't an existing customer, and yet I wasn't a new customer.

    So technically I don't exist.

My newspaper guy sat down with me yesterday and I was able to order 10 subscriptions at $1 a paper!!! I was so excited! So much better than having to run to the 99 cent store each Sunday and do different transactions just to get my papers. If you want to contact him his name is Shawn Tiehnor and his number is 832-330-6605. Let him know that Jennifer Cawthon refered you if you do decide to call him.

I've seen those flyers in the "teaser" part they've been throwing lately on Sat/Sun (which, last couple weeks only had one of the inserts instead of all of them ... don't know if it was intentional or mistake, but wasn't a favorable impression) and been curious about it.
How long is that price good for? 3mos? 6mos? a year?
I've thought about checking into it, but coming up with $520 for a year in ONE payment right now ...
not to mention the last time I had home delivery, I was so impressed that I ended up cancelling it after a few weeks. -- I'm glad other people have good delivery people!!

Is your 99¢ store selling them for $1 again???????????? 99¢ Only Store?? I hadn't heard about that, if they are. If so, I'll be jumpin' for joy!
