I signed up for 10 6 month subscriptions. I think that as long as your renew it will be $1 per paper, but I can't answer that for sure.

And no... my 99 cent store is not selling the newspapers for that price anymore. I am just happy that they switched to selling subscriptions for $1 instead of having them at the 99 cent store because it is much more convenient for me.

I have never had a problem with my newspaper subscriptions before. This time they asked me where I wanted them put and I am having them put on my front porch. I will see how that works out for me.

Ah ... well, I might try to do that if it's still offered in a month or so.
It really hurt my feelings when 99¢ store stopped selling them ... I go by there sometimes when I get my papers ... they sure used to have a lot more business weekend mornings.

Glad you have good delivery people! it's important!

From what I understand it was the Houston Chronicle that said they couldn't sell the papers for that price anymore... not the 99 cent store. The Houston Chronicle is trying to get more subscriptions sold.

Yeah, when I asked the lady working at the 99 cent store last weekend about the papers, she said the Chronicle guy was charging them more than they were willing to charge their customers. She also said that they bought them for a few weeks but were losing money selling them for less than they paid for them.

agreed ... sorry, didn't mean to imply it was 99¢ Only's idea ... my bad.

It's the Chronicle I'm unhappy with, not the 99¢ Only!

For the people that are getting the $1 per paper delivered price who are wondering if the price will increase or not here is the disclaimer on the offer:

PRICES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE: The Houston Chronicle continues to make a concerted effort to keep the cost of subscriptions at a minimum for our readers. When a price change or frequency of delivery changes, each subscriber's paid thru date will be adjusted based on the balance left on each subscriber's account.

It looks to me like they could jack up the rate anytime they want. This happened to my neighbor even though they said she was locked in at $1 for a year. They bumped her to $1.50 and reneged on the deal. It is nice to see the paper back down to $1 again. They probably made a lot of subscribers mad due to the last price hike.

so much for a contract, huh?
Sounds like the Chronicle thinks they're one of the light companies ... or an oil company (gas prices).
At least when I go to the store, I might get surprised if the store charges less than $2, but they aren't going to charge more than $2 (unless paper goes up on them)!

They seem to continue to change prices with the stores, too in the past few weeks. I was getting them at a discount until last weekend ... then was suprised to be charged full price again. ... beginning to wonder if Chronicle is run by a ditzy blonde (and I can say that ... WAS natural blonde, don't think I was ever ditzy) that can't make up her mind.

I cancelled my subscription of 9 papers when they continued to jack up my rate with a cc on file. It went from $1 to $1.25 (I took that increase) to $2. I told them to stick it b/c I could get it for that at the store.
