I say Good Idea, go for it.
hey folks,
got to wondering, since I'm trying to learn to work with Google Docs ... who, if anyone, would be interested in having the ad done in a google doc and a link posted so others could add/correct Q matches?
Good Idea?
Bad Idea?
Insane Idea?
More trouble than it's worth?
anybody want a "test drive" of such an ad?
I say Good Idea, go for it.

Not that I should be accessing hcw at work, lol, but I can't access googledocs from work because the firewalls block it. If the info was also pasted into the posts or you could somehow see it without having to click on the googledoc, that would be OK. But for me anyway, I'd sure miss not being able to take advantage of a little down time at work to check things out on here!
I like the idea
i say why not?![]()
Boobles, thanks for mentioning these things! I hadn't even thought about that.
I had kinda played with the thought of typing the ad as a list (like normal), but including it on a Google Doc and "sharing" it so if I got tied up doing something else, and another person had time to look up a few Q matches, they could place them directly in the Google doc. Then, as the matching was completed, I (or whoever) had posted the ad could copy/paste from Google doc to the original ad post. (So, wouldn't lose the ad posted on board!! and apologies for thinking y'all could read my mind! .. I have a hard enough time doing that sometimes, and it's in my head!!)
One of our members was working with putting pictures of the items into the ad ... I'm not real sure how the copy/paste would work with that, but might be worth a try!
While I'm asking ...
I really liked ZM's idea of having a price book ... having one started for the Super Doubles sure made a person see the value of such a tool!!
Haven't gotten to "talk" to ZM about it, but playing around with the thought of starting a google doc table thing with some prices I know ... again, making it a "share" document so everyone can contribute (hint, hint!!).
I've never worked with Google tables, but if anyone else has and can tell me some shortcuts/learning curves they've figured out, I'll be happy to accept them! (Or, if you wanted to set one up, it sure wouldn't hurt my feelings!)
My idea is something like this:
columns for
Item description/title,
size (oz, lbs, 4pk whatever),
Reg. $,
Store location (seems there were some different prices on some of the mega item regular prices so might need more than one line where different stores have different price), -- this is one of the columns that 'bugs' me, not quite sure where it should be placed,
Sale price (for items on long-term sale ... ie, price is good for more than regular ad period),
End date of Sale Price,
Catalina offered (gives description of how many you gotta buy to get cat, and what the cat is for ... like the Dole fruit cup things),
Cat offer dates (dates you can GET the cat ... not expiration date of the individual cats, as I'm guessing they vary)
and some blank columns in there to add other things
Would have to look at it again, but I think ZM (and others who did docs) had the items broken into types/areas/etc (produce, shampoo, etc.) ... to me, that makes sense in quickly locating an item.
How 'bout some feedback?! pros, cons, suggestions, better ideas, help ... I'll take 'em all!
I'm thinking that, when we get a Super Doubles again, someone could copy/paste the items we have listed, then put the Qs in there ... sure would be a time-saver just setting up the Sale table instead of it being a frantic "hurry up, we're under a time-crunch" thing!
(Sadly, this one I "think" would have to stay as Google Table Doc, unless someone knows how to paste it into a post????? BUT, I think I read, somewhere, that Google docs could be converted to word and excel docs ... so the completed project -- talking super doubles -- could maybe be attached to a post??? and those with excel could open it??? -- where're all the computer geniuses that know these answers??!!)
anyway, let's hear your 2¢ on this idea, too! (Glad I came across how to put the ¢ in!!! I got a new toy!! ... doesn't take much to make me happy, huh?!)
Sorry I have been mia lately guys! Just trying to get life in order and think I bit off more than I could chew with the things I have going right now.
I am gonna try to be on the forum more and get it cleaned up(my ocd is driving me nuts with all these duplicate threads)
Anyway. I am in the works with Heidi to get a pricing book set up for us right here on HCW! I want it to look similar to what she has already set up for HEB(Hot Coupon World Price Book (HEB)) but I want one extra column. I am hoping to get two price columns, one for the nonsale price and one for the sale price.
Hopefully we will be able to get this set up relatively soon. Also, once it is set up, Heidi informed me she could pull the google doc info right into it which would give us a great start. What I would like to do before that happens is to check the prices again and add the nonsale prices. I am going to try to spend the next week working on that, and if anyone wants to add any products to that google doc, I would welcome the help. You will have to send them to me to enter however, as I am the only one with edit functions on the doubles doc.
Thank you jaws1 for all the hard work you have been putting into this forum! You have been an incredible contributor and I thank you for all your hard work.

Don't know if it'll help others, but the last few times I've gone to store with my list and sale prices, I've left space to add the regular price AND the end of the sale price of the items.
Then, on one sheet, I've got reg $, Sale Price, Sale End date & the item!! ... only thing left to do is type it out!
BTW, wasn't Hamburger Helper $1.61?? Made a quick trip the other day and noticed the tags said (I'm pretty sure) $1.43 regular price??
ZM already sent you a few prices. Have a few more to type and send you for list! (but gotta do a "honey-do" tonight ... might be tomorrow before get list done)
[Everyone's more than welcome for my efforts ... they benefit me, too!]
OH ... guess I'll get Kroger ad Wednesday ... got other 2 ads today ... holidays always get my ads reversed, and take a week or so to get straightened out (so may not get next week's Kroger ad until next Wednesday, instead of Tuesday).
should i drift to another forum to find out what the other 2 ads are?![]()
