Never heard of this before - they just always double/triple up to $1.00 - but I am not in your region. We never used to get the overage, but they would still give $1 off.
Does anyone know about this? I had $.35 cents off Dial. Dial hand soap is on sale this week for $1.00. Therefore when you triple the .35 cents off coupon, you get $1.05 off. In the past this worked fine - as long as you had other groceries that that extra .05 cents could go to - it wouldn't throw the register and cashier off by saying Kroger owes you money. Not anymore!!! Now it won't triple or even double that coupon. I inquired about it, the cashier got the manager and he said - that if the coupon makes the item in the negative - takes off more than the cost of the item, you can then only get the face value of the coupon. Since when did this start??? Any way around it? They wouldn't even adjust the coupon down to $1.00 - it was $.35 off or nothing which I don't think is fair. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :shrug7:

It's not just Kroger - the Dial coupon isn't tripling anywhere. It has a barcode that starts with a different number to usual, so it only takes off the 35c and that's it. Annoying - I'll stick to Softsoap![]()
I've never heard of this either. My store has always doubled coupons up to 0.99, even if the resulting discount is more than a dollar. For example, a 0.55 coupon would become 1.10. They do, however, adjust down the value if it is more than the price of the item. So no overage, but free items can still be had. I'm in the Great Lakes region. Maybe you should call corporate. HTH and GL!
The reason it won't double or triple is because if you look at the bar code there is a 9 and for some reason any coupon that starts with a 9 won't double or triple. I've never known the reason why its like that, but thats how it is. Sorry. I too have a lot of those that I got in a trade, but didn't realize it till i go them. HTH

DIAL starts with a 9.....
coupons that start with a 9 will not double or triple.
Did they do that with any of your other coupons???

But the coupon doesn't say anywhere on it - do not double or anything like that. I think it's just a rotten deal. I too will stick with softsoap - only problem is, I got a ton of these Dial coupons in a trade as well..... :(
It doesn't have to since it starts with a 9.
At least now you know the inside of a coupon..... start with a 9 and they will not double or triple.... start with a 5 and they will.
Sometimes if they start with a 5 BUT says do not double, the store register still will double it.

We are not saying that it has to say DND what you have to look at is the bar code at the bottom, if it starts with a (9) than it is not going to double or triple no matter what. Coupons will double/triple (well at least at the Kroger's I shop) even if it says DND it is the way Kroger computers are programmed. But once again, it WILL NOT double/triple if the bar code starts with a 9. HTH![]()

Unfortunately the computer does not READ the wording on a coupon, only the barcode. As others have stated, if there is a 9 before all the other numbers start, it will not d/t at the registers. If you have the time, you can go to the service desk and have them d/t them manually for you, but that is only if you have time to kill.
Also, Kroger does not give overage, they are correct that the coupon will only triple up to $1 in this case(IF the coupon was not a 9)
