I only shop at Kroger for the sale items with coupons. A much less expensive store is Foodtown and they are all over town. Most of my meat is purchased at FT, unless it's on sale at Kroger for less. Last week I got boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.68 a pound; so, I bought 12 packages. Also Pork chops were on specail for 1.47...

Occasionally, HEB has good sales when it comes to the everything included meals. You buy this item and get xxx free. Weekly, the HEB website is checked for these deals.

Yes, my power was out for 13 days and we lost about $800 in stockpiled meat purchased at great prices. I'm bummed too, but hang in there..

Take care...

I usually save around 80-85% at Kroger. I RARELY buy anything that is not on sale. My Kroger doesn't limit coupons. I have used 15 of the same coupon before. When there is a good deal, I stock up on it. I actually like Kroger better than Meijer, but Meijer's sales are usually better.

Before I got serious with matching coupons and sales, I never shopped Kroger. However, I find that when I combine sales with coupons at Kroger I can do better than HEB or Walmart as a whole. It does help that they double and triple the value of the coupon. Just start keeping track of the sales prices so that you know what the lowest price is, then buy enough that can last you until the next sale. It takes a while to build a stockpile that will allow you to make a meal from. At first you will have random items that won't complete a meal, so you have to buy items to make a meal that may not be at their lowest price point. I think it takes about 3 months to stockpile your pantry so that you can have what you need to make a complete meal.

Now that I shop almost exclusively at Kroger, they send me coupons, frequently these include meat and produce. Don't give up, it takes some time to build up a good stockpile variety.

I've just started getting really serious about couponing, but I can normally do much better at Kroger than HEB. Those are the only grocery stores near me so I don't have much other choice. I have a Super Target and Wal Mart nearby, but since they don't double or triple coupons I have to do a lot more math there to figure out how the deal compares to the grocery store.

The most important thing in my opinion is to have some method of tracking your savings. I don't feel like I save very much in my grocery store shopping (my totals at checkout are still in the $60 range, same as before I started couponing), but I was looking at our budget the other day, and we are $20 under our projected budget amount for this point in a month. Then I looked in our cabinets and we are just stocked to the brim! Make sure you have some objective method of calculating your savings, whether it's a detailed spreadsheet of every purchase or just a monthly budget number and a scan through your pantry.

I shop sale items at Kroger, Albertsons, and Tom Thumb, then fill up our other grocery needs at whichever store I'm in - usually Kroger. I trade for high multiples of new coupons for products I use all the time, but rarely trade in preparation for a particular sale.
