If you have any old milk jugs fill them with water .You can freeze them and it should help the stuff stay cold .Also turn the freezer as cold as you can and make it as full as you can .If the power does go out ,don't open the freezer .
OMG!!! It is crazy out there!!! YIKES!! Just ran to Kroger here in Tomball to get water and such and they are almost completely out of everything!!!:hectic1: Water and bread mainly! The lines are tremendously long!! I am so worried about my stockpile in my freezer!!:frown:

Oh man. I am about to head out to the store. Ugh! I don't want to fight the crowds.
Heather, Mom to Ethan (3/03) and Conner (8/05) from Cypress, Texas! :party6:
Well if you don't loose power I would turn it back to normal .
During Hurricane Charley we had an old freezer and unfortunately for me we didn't have a surge protector so it knocked out the freezer .
If all does fail your insurance company will reimburse you for any loss .
You might want to fill up any jugs or pitchers and the tub in case you need the water for other purposes .Like the toliet or teeth brushing or sponging off .
Its not fun when you loose power we lost it for 5 days with Charley .
I'm in Cypress area and you couldn't pay me to go to the store.. I sent my husband yesterday and it was crazy already... My neighbor also went and she picked up some water and gave the cashier $75 and walked out.. This was at 3:00 yesterday... I can't image what the stores are like now...
I hope everyone turns out alright.. I've never had to ride out a storm, I don't know what to expect but I'm sure we'll all pull together...
Good Luck to all!!!
Glad I got my free water wyb Powerade at Albertsons last week.
I don't have any jugs to fill, but I read you should fill a garbage bag inside the trash can with water and you can use it for dishes, laundry or flushing the toilet.
I won't be trying to do laundry if the power is out for only a few days unless it's the kids dirty underwear, and I'll probably make DH and I go in the bushes instead of flushing the toilet (no, I have no shame) and DS can use his potty chair and I'll empty it outside.
These are the times I'm glad I have a stockpile and I know how to make my own bread! You won't have to fight me in the aisles at the store right now.
Be safe everyone!!

This might sound a little crazy but I told DH I'm going to take pictures of our freezers tonight just in case we have to make a claim. I've never been through this before other than Alicia and I was young so I don't really know how all this works. Of course he thinks I'm nuts and told me it's not like it cost us alot of money and I said duh that's the point!
I can't imagine having to go and replace all my meat that I used coupons and wine tags on!:frown:
I just hope we all make it through this safely and unharmed!
I hope that you all stay safe .I was watching the weather channel sounds like its a big one
We're up in Dallas so it's not bad here yet, we have the tropical storm wind warnings and on the news last night it was saying that we're going to get hit with all of it sometime Sunday and to expect power outages, flooding, heavy rain, strong wind, and possible tornados, so we'll see... Obviously we're not getting the actual brunt of the hurricane since we're farther north, but they're expecting all the left over crap with the winds and stuff to hit us. I was at the store this morning and it wasn't bad but they were starting to stock the water in the middle of the aisle and the stocker said it was because they were anticipating everyone coming and buying a ton of water lol. Everyone stay safe!!! I have to go buy flashlights, batteries, and candles. It completely slipped my mind today so I'm running up there tomorrow real quick.
