Thumbs Down Kroger is tightening up on coupon fraud

I was chatting with the people at my Kroger, and they were telling me about some ladies who were not using coupons correctly. They said they have had a lot of increased coupon activity and that they were losing money, and that some would try to use 2 coupons on BOGO items. Also, the night the Electrasol q expired, they didn't restock the shelves until after midnight (it sounded like it was on purpose) so those would be invalid, even though they were open until 1 AM.

My best advice is to be sure we are buying the right item exactly as described, and to be sure and have the right number of items (3) for each free we are getting with the Kraft/Nabisco deal. They also do not appreciate the person with 100 items and 100 qs. They made her match everything up and scrutinized. Do smaller transactions that are correct and don't try to pull anything over, for the good of the coupon community!!!

I am ZM and I approve this message.

Erin and I actually had quite a discussion with the manager at the store where we had the last coupon class. We were told a lady came in and tried to use the wrong coupons on several items. We were also told she got pretty foul with the cashier and manager and actually started cussing her out and eventually left in a huff because they would not let her use her coupons fradulently.

Erin and I were sure to remind the class several times, BE NICE to your cashiers and managers. There is no need for foul language. Anyone who has actually met me knows I am not one to keep my mouth shut, BUT using foul language and verbally assulting these employees is NOT the way to go.
Please everyone, keep it legal and be firm but polite. If you know they are misinterpreting the policy, clarify it for them, but NICELY!

And yes, DO NOT wipe out the shelves. The stores will get highly annoyed by you and start tightening the rules. They need enough for other shoppers too. See if they will special order for you if you really want 100 of something!

I agree, if you start using the coupons the wrong way stores will stop taking them. that is what happened in the past with the IP coupons. Several stores in the area stopped taking them for several months due to fraud.

we all want to save money, but do it the right way people.

and I agree with ZM, special order stuff, the stores are more than happy to do it for you.

I have witnessed an incident like that firsthand, at the next register. So much fuss and attention was on the 2 ladies (each with ziplocs full of cpns) arguing very loudly with the cashier & floor manager, that even my cashier was flustered with my 5 coupons and told me that my IP needed to be in color, I just said ok, completed my transaction and politely went to CS to see if that was a new store policy and if not, can I please have a refund of my .75 that the cashier did not give me. I even called later that day to the manager to let him know what the cashier was telling people, instead of pointing them to the posted verbage about stores right to not accept. I still praised the cashier for her otherwise effectiveness & courteous attitude, and the manager seemed to appreciate that. I have not had an issue since.

Also, the cashier mentioned that someone was cutting OFF the expiration dates! Definitely a NO NO!

[quote=talentetta;1087373 They also do not appreciate the person with 100 items and 100 qs.

They have no right to get upset about the woman with the 100 coupons if she was doing it honestly. I agree you should do smaller transactions, but sometimes you don't have the time to do so. Most of the cashiers at my Kroger cheer you on when you use coupons. Only a few of them at mine don't. One of the managers when he is there comes over when I use coupons and checks every one of them, but that's ok I am doing it correctly. I don't use that many at one time, but I sure wish I can soon. I read the coupons very carefully and I do use the 3 per Kraft per coupon.

I'm not in Texas..I'm in Ohio...but I've noticed that the Kroger cashiers here have started getting pickier about coupons. They're still very nice about it, but they're taking the time to read them more carefully before they scan them. A few days ago, the cashier that I went to was doing this, so I asked if there was a problem. (I go to her a lot, and she's always very nice.) She told me that they were told to look closer at the any coupon, since there had been an increase in the number of coupons being misused (product not being bought, not enough items being bought, expired qs, etc.) It just irritates me, that people can potentially ruin this for those of us who go by the book.

I know that the 100 q person was the one who was being dishonest, so I think they will be leary of anyone with that many at once, since there is someone out there going around. We may not be that person, but we will be scrutinized as if we were. I just want a pleasant experience, and not need to feel like I have to justify myself, so I always do small runs when I drop off or pick up ds from work. That is handy for me, to be sure, but I also get to know the friendly ones with so much more exposure!

And friendliness is everything when you forget and do more than 3 like qs, and they adjust it for you as if you had done 2 transacations!
