News Kroger Refuses to Take Coupons

This is from Fox5Atlanta and it happened in Hampton, GA. I think if we develop relationships with managers and call ahead for large coupon purchases, this could be avoided. Then again, you may want to try a different Kroger !

HAMPTON, Ga. - A Hampton woman says a manager at the Kroger store near her home refused to take her clippings, raising the question how many coupons are too many.

Khadijah Herring says she got hooked on clipping coupons after watching one of those TV shows about it. But one grocery store says there is a limit when it comes to how you use those coupons.

At least once a week Khadijah Herring clips coupons with her children. She says she was using some of those coupons last Friday morning at a Kroger near her home where she says the manager refused her clippings at checkout.

"He walks up to me and his only words are I'm not taking those," said shopper Khadijah Herring.

Herring asked him why an she says the manager replied, "because you're a habitual coupon user."

Herring says she was trying to buy among other items 20 body washes. She says with a family of 10 she relies heavily on the coupons to make ends meet.

"Everything I have I have a coupon for. I shop not without a coupon," said Herring.

A representative for Kroger says he can't comment about the case of Khadijah Herring because an internal investigation is ongoing. He does say the use of coupons however does have its limitations.

Kroger says "there is not a limit on the number of coupons per transaction, however Kroger does limit one coupon per item and reserves the right to limit quantities."

"I think there should be a limit maybe no more than five or so and what does that do for other shoppers it leaves some on the shelves for those who don't use coupons," said Herring.

Representatives from Kroger also encourage coupon clippers to call their store ahead of time if they intend to make a coupon run for a lot of items at one time.

"You know what, I've had that relationship with a lot of other stores but this one told me they do not do that. Their policy was not to do that."

The Kroger representative says the store in question "does" work with coupon clippers to make sure they and all the other customers get their needs met.

Herring says she'll continue clipping coupons and start shopping at another Kroger.

Wow, kwhile0599, only 3 ? I hate that the coupon policy is YMMV. Some people think this will start a trend and other stores will soon start limiting coupons as well.

I found this out recently: coupons loaded onto your shopper card in VA cannot be doubled with paper coupons AND they do not double the electronic coupons. It's better to clip and bring them. I've also noticed that several times that aren't doubling my coupons which I emailed the company and was emailed back a copy of the coupon policy and I had asked if it differed from store to store, I was told it does not. I'm still trying to get the hang of the coupon system but not sure how to approach the doubling thing.

You cannot use ecoupons for the same item with a paper coupon - that is against store policy. Ecoupons do not double. Also if the value of the paper coupon is over $.50, it will not double.

That's true of all Krogers, they do not allow stacking of paper coupons and the digital coupons, the registers will prompt the cashier that a coupon has already been redeemed on that item.

Kroger only doubles coupons with a face value of 50 cents or less, and since Kroger's corporate policy is vague, some stores restrict the number of 'like' coupons to two, so if you had three, only two will double if they're 50 cents or less, even if you bought the products.

Store mgrs obviously have authority to alter how many coupons they will double both those that are identical and total numbers, at least it's that way around the Raleigh area stores, they're all different.

Coupons are found money - who walks by money on the ground??
