QUESTION Need a coupon veteran opinion

I am new to couponing and I have been browsing this forum for a couple of days. People has posted that they don't pay for toothpaste and etc. and I have seen pictures of stockpiling.
    Now my question are:
    1. Kroger has theAir Wick I-Motion Starter Kit on sale for $4.99 used a $4/1 coupon making it $0.99. Is this a good buy according to you or should I wait for a better deal to get it free

    2. Kroger also has the Airwick Ultra on sale for 5.99 used a $4/1 coupon making it $1.99. To me that seems good due to the fact that the regular price is almost $13.00

    2. Don't know how people get their toothpaste and such free but would you still pay $0.50 for one

    3. How would you know if an item is a good deal or not it might look like a great deal to me but to the veterans not how can I know the difference.

    Just my two cents here.

A lot of people have been paying .99 for those things. I have way too many other glade stuff I got for free so I am not buying it. But, if you need those than I say that is a great price.
I think that 1.99 is an okay price on that ultra. The regular price is ridiculous, imo. If you need it then I would get one but I would not be getting a lot of them at that price.

Toothpaste, yes there will be deals that will net free toothpaste. Kroger frequently runs 10/10 on colgate and there is usually a coupon. If you need toothpaste, I would get only two at the most and wait for a sale that will get you free toothpaste.

A great deal to one person may not be a great deal to the next. It all depends on your area you live in so I might let other people in this region answer that one. At the begining, you probably are going to spend more. As you get used to the sales and their cycles, it will become clear what is a good deal to you. Hope that made sense for you!

I think its a good buy if its something you use and need, but I got tons of air freshener stuff free when I first started, lots of deals were out there for that stuff....

    same as above....

I wouldnt! I only get toothpaste now if its free or makes me money! comes around free too often.... I have about 15-20 tubes right now, and have given away at least that many. Colgate or crest are free every few weeks or so

    3. How would you know if an item is a good deal or not it might look like a great deal to me but to the veterans not how can I know the difference.

I usually skim through the ads myself and see what jumps out at me and take note of it, I usually have a good idea of what coupons are available and now I am getting better at knowing the prices and sales on things... I know in the beginning its a lot harder. but then I look on the boards and see what everyone else is excited about, that usually gives me a good idea of what is a great deal, whats a mediocre deal, whats not such a great deal.... and I usually find a deal that I didnt know about (like if there is an IP coupon that I didnt know about ) for example whenI first started I thought .50 was good for a bottle of mustard, but now I know how to get it free almost any time (small jars at bilo w/ a doubled coupon)... I remember jumping on A1 a few months ago for $1-2 a piece, now with the $2 coupons it will be free or at the most .50 a piece - I am hoping to get enough to last me til the next GREAT deal....
HTH and if you aren;t sure you can ask on here and people will let you know if you can get a better deal somewhere else or wait for a better sale. you'll have the hang of it pretty soon!
