QUESTION Do Not Sell Advertised Items

What is your store's policy if they don't sell an item that is advertised?

For instance, the Kroger I went to yesterday didn't sell the Thomas English Muffins Whole Grain or the Private Selection Organic Milk. It's not that they were out of stock, it is that they do NOT carry the items.

I went to CS and asked if they could substitute the Whole Wheat English Muffins for the BOGO price. They gave them to me at BOGO at $3.79. Which is the price of the whole wheat. The Whole Grain would have been $2.99 if they sold them.

I also asked if they'd substitute the Natrually Preferred Organic Milk (which was 2/$3) and give it to me at the $2.79 price. They said they couldn't.

The ONLY reason I went to Kroger was to get the english muffins & the milk. I was going to get 5 half gallons of milk. :(

But, I guess in the end it is ok. Publix has their organic milk cheaper next week. :)

So, what is your's stores policy if they don't sell an item?

I don't have a Kroger, but have you looked for fine print on the ad?

Most store ads have tiny little print somewhere that states "not all advertised products available in all stores" or something along those lines. Covers their butts for situations like that, and releases them from any obligations to substitute.

I know ads normally say that, but the online ad (which has the small print on it) doesn't say anything like that. It just says that the sale is good from 6/1 to 6/8 and includes the counties it is good for. It also says "none sold to dealers. qty rights reserved" & it includes copyright info.

But, I didn't see anything about not being available at all stores.

I called corporate b/c I was curious. They said that if a product is advertised for the county then they should sell the product. If they don't sell the product, then they need to substitute for it. She said that if it was just out of stock I should get a raincheck.

She is going to have the manager call me about it.

So, the manager of the Kroger called me. He said he doesn't know why I was told that I couldn't substitute when they normally do substitute. He said that next time I come in to talk to him. He said he'll have an answer as to why they didn't have the milk.

Great job eisor! I'm glad that they got back to you so quick. You would think that all the stores in the same region would carry the same products, especially if they advertise them on sale. Thanks for letting us know how this went.

So, it turns out that the Private Selection (Kroger Brand) Organic milk is NOT stocked in the Nature's Market with the rest of the organic milk. (WHAT??) It is instead stocked with the regular milk.

I'm still trying to understand this one!!
