Does anyone know if you can pay for your kroger gas w/ a gift card? I am really thinking about this one if I can.

Hey, that's a great idea!

I just called Acworth and asked if we can use gift cards for gas, and he told me yes.
I then asked if we could use the one's with the new promotion on gas and he said definitely.

I called back just to make sure and asked the mgr since the promo states that it cannot be combined with any other discount, that it would still work for gas.

"Yes, it will still work. You will buy the gift card ex $330 gift card will only cost you $300. Before you get your gas you swipe your Kroger card to get your gas discount that you have earned and then pay with your new gift card". They said there will be no conflict. I just wanted to make sure.

For those of you also using the kroger Mastercard there are a few twists.

In order to continue to get the 15¢/gallon off gas at the pump (requires the $100 purchase on your Kroger card and paying for the gas with the Mastercard) paying with the gift card will be problematic. I was told (in the Kroger store-haven't tried it at the pump) to swipe the card, then when it asks about payment hit "pay at the window" this should keep the price dropping down by 15¢-but I would double check the price gauge -then pay at the window with the giftcard. If you just stick the GC in at the pump the price will only drop by 10¢.

Also one of the great Managers and I had a long discussion and we agreed that although the initial GC purchase would give you points for dollars spent at Kroger, you would loose the extra reward points given when you buy Kroger brand items if you paid with the GC. Best thing to do is a pain for all, but they agreed they want to help stretch savings and would gladly cooperate-so split the order. Pay for all Kroger brand items on the Mastercard, everything else on the GC.

Do you have to buy $300/$600/$1200 all at one time, or can I buy it in smaller increments of $100 or so? Also, do they charge tax on giftcards? Tax here is 9.25%, so I really wouldn't be "ahead" on the deal if they do charge tax on the gift cards. Thanks in advance for the info.
