QUESTION OMG Have you heard of this crazy coupon policy?

The service manager came over and showed me a paper that stated that nobody's allowed to get anything free with a coupon. The least that you can get it for is 75% off the price.

I've heard of places doing that with IPs, but not inserts.

Really? Maybe I should call corporate and ask them because when she brought me the paper to read it, she had it folded so I couldn't see what was written above that part. She did babble something else about b1g1 and I know they don't take b1g1 IP's, so maybe the 75% rule was about IP's but she didn't want me to see that part.

It is hard to imagine that anyone who is smart enough to run a successful store would be stupid enough to refuse business based on the method of payment. Plus I doubt any of their cashiers are smart enough to quickly calculate 75percent of an items price in their head to determine if the coupon is less that that price...

Never heard of this one but I do have a local spartan store that has some pretty strange coupon rules. For example, can't use coupons on mark downs, can't use coupons on sale items that will give you a really super deal.
When I asked about this I was told that he can't collect on the coupons for mark down stuff or when stuff is on a really great sale. I don't shop there very much.

"can't use coupons on sale items that will give you a really super deal."
And who exactly determines if an item sells at a really super deal? My version of a deal on toothpaste may not be the store's idea of a deal! That is subjective and really makes no sense as being a policy, if it even is one. Sounds more like a fairy tale!

That one is just plain silly, IMO! The part about collecting on the coupons based on the sale price. That has no bearing whatsoever other than if the cpn is over the amount of the sale price. And, that seems to always be in debate as to what amount the stores really receive on that coupon when redeemed. And of course, the second part, well refer to #1 above!

Oh my! Were you at the Park Ave Kroger in Mansfield?? I was thinking you live close to me. I had this same problem back when we had the $4.00 paper towel coupons that were free, with a little overage. She said she could only take 75% of the value. I HATE THAT STORE! Seems absolutely crazy when they get reimbursed!! So sorry for your experience!

Sounds like someone's picking and choosing which parts of Kroger's policy to follow. The whole IP policy is on the corporate Kroger site here: (policy is specific to Internet Printables, and should not be applied to inserts, mailers etc)Kroger

    Excerpts taken from the policy:
We will usually not accept coupons for more than about 75% of a product's value. For example, a $2 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that normally sells for $5 or more, but a $2 off printable coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 is unlikely to be legitimate. If there are exceptions, we are usually provided advance notice by the manufacturer.
*I have never had this enforced.

We will generally not accept "FREE product" (no purchase required) print-at-home coupons. It is currently an industry practice not to produce print-at-home manufacturer's coupons for free product. Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other values that have a purchase requirement are acceptable.

(Italics mine - an IP Buy 1 Get 1 free IS acceptable, because you have to purchase the first one. I have successfully argued this point and retained the "right" to use these Qs at Kroger.
My success was based on having this policy printed up and in my Q binder with me.

My advice: Print the policy, keep it with you and politely argue and go up the chain of command if you have to. :)

here is their policy that i recieved

The only coupons that we would double that say “do not double” are the blinking ones on the shelf. Any other coupons brought in to the store that say, “Do Not Double” we would not double.

    PAH: (Print At Home)
Internet Coupon Policy ALL Banner Stores!!
We only accept printable coupons if they scan properly at checkout.
We do not accept “FREE product” printable coupons, with no purchase requirement. Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other values that have a purchase requirement are acceptable but will be MUCH less common than traditional value-off coupons.
We do not accept coupons for more than about 75% of a product’s value without advance notice. Legitimate PAH coupons will not be for a high value relative to the cost of the item. For example, a $2 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that normally sells for $5 or more, but a $2 off printable coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 is unlikely to be legitimate.
Coupons will be rejected if they appear out of proportion or blurry, or are obvious duplicates. Legitimate PAH coupons are never copied, sold or traded. Nearly all coupons are “non-transferable” meaning they should not be photocopied or scanned and distributed to others.
Coupons will be rejected if they appear to have been altered in any way.
PAH coupons can be checked for validity at Coupon Resource Center.
